OT: Movies/TV Shows

yeah I would probably put Minority Report in there too tbh. even though there was something stopping it from being great that i can't quite put my finger on.

Edge is super fun, and Oblivion looks great, both with flawed but interesting enough premises.

Incredible movie. And just saw a news piece the other day about some store now doing a facial scan on customers before allowing the door to open for them, and I was like wow, it's happening.

the science and future world building was top notch for sure. the live advertising and the cars/roads were prescient in particular.

now that i think harder on it, though, it's probably that the premise is a little too fantasy/magic-based to me, what with the mutant precogs and they don't really explain how that is realistic.

I mean, the precogs were just basically psychics (unless I'm forgetting something). There's no explaining that, it's just either you can accept that some people out there might have such abilities (that can then get sort of stretched by technology to turn thoughts into something overly visual), or you can't. Given that I've seen legit news reports on technology that will let your mind express itself without the rest of the body doing anything (I can't even remember what that machine was, some sort of dictation program or something on 60 Minutes a few years ago), it might not be all that far fetched.

Magnolia is top 3 for sure, and Minority Report is definitely up there, although i always thought they didn't quite nail the precog part, probably for the reasons mentioned here. Did a great job as Lestat in Interview With the Vampire as well.

also, Edge of Tomorrow is really good.

not sure the MI's even make my Top-10 Cruise list.

lemme try.....

Top Gun, A Few Good Men, Color of Money, Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky, Rain Man, Cocktail, Legend, Jerry Maguire, Collateral, Edge of Tommorrow, Oblivion, Risky Business, (The Outsiders, Magnolia)....

yeah that was easy.
The Firm

Extraction 2 is not as good as the first, but still entertaining. The beginning is a little clunky, then it takes off.

I loved Magnolia. I am a sucker for those interconnecting types of movies. Altman's "Short Cuts" from 1993 is also amazing. It had everything, including Huey Lewis' wang.
PTA was inspired by SC and there wouldn't be a Magnolia without it.
