OT: Movies/TV Shows

I'm curious Volc---have you also watched Gen V's parent series, The Boys?

And what are your thoughts on it?

?

I already gave them in the past when the show has aired, but really I don't understand the point of your question.

happy to debate with anyone who has actually watched Gen V.

I hadn’t read anything snide in his question….think he was just asking if you’d liked The Boys originally, and then disliked this….or if their over the top satire & ultra violence just isn’t your cup of tea regardless.

…..but now I’m worried my snide-ar might be in need of a tune up.

his question wasn't snide at all. I just don't understand a response of "well have you watched the Boys?" in this case.

that’s just it….to me you’ve made it snarky, by adding “well” in your head, which changes his questions tone entirely.

To me it came off pretty straightforward…as in he was sincerely curious if you’d also watched the original series and liked it….or if neither were really up your alley.

which is also why I’m curious now to see, if I was the one misreading it, or you.

I don't get it.

but honestly, again, if anyone wants to debate the actual substance of the show I'm down.

Watched a few episodes and didnt mind it but thats also my hour to numb my brain so I usually eat a gummie and try my best to shut off reality so Im not deep diving in to the guts of a show like that.

Ill continue to watch it

I was just curious if the misandry you’re perceiving is something you see in both shows, or only in Gen V. And if so, what Gen V is doing differently that you object to.

To me, both shows seem to be the same, pretty much. A dark comedy satire of superheroes in general, Instagram/influencer culture, corporate unaccountability and the way that marketing and PR can commodify and spin anything.

If “men suck” was also a central aspect of either show, that sailed right over my head. Seems to me like pretty much 99% of people of any gender in the “The Boys Cinematic Universe” are deeply flawed and/or shitty people.

I was thinking about getting into the American Horror Story franchise, but good god that's alot of content.

Can anyone advise me either way?

decided to catch up on a franchise i don't really know other than the OG by watching Halloween III and IV. III is actually interesting and has nothing to do with the others but unfortunately the production quality is not even B-movie grade. IV is return to the original but pretty generic. dissappointing shit and i was better off not watching.

I am refreshing my palate with a re-viewing of Elm Street III: Dream Warriors. This is the good shit.

I mean this in the best possible way man, but this is deeply sad to me. things have gotten to the point where this toxicity is considered normal and accepted. your comment is living proof. You literally see no difference between the male characters in Gen V and those in The Boys. They couldn't be more different in how they act, speak, are spoken to by females, even how they participate in the plot.

I have nothing but contempt for all this anti-male stuff personally, I do not act like the males in Gen V or allow myself to be spoken to like that in my life.... though it's not really me I'm thinking of, but moreso the generation of men that are growing up now watching this kind of sludge. And accepting it, and acting more and more female as result.

I'll let this go because this is a left leaning board and I know what happens to people who step out of line here politically. hell I'm guilty of it myself at times, and as most of you know I have been "here" over 20 years now, so I know whereof I speak in that department.

anyway, carry on.

Let me change the subject by saying I recently enjoyed a film called Under the Silver Lake. Yes, this is my kind of movie, because I love surrealism and all that stuff. Andrew Garfield is pretty good in it. Not sure if I reviewed this previously in this thread, but this one is worth a look even if I'm repeating myself.

Also good is The House That Jack Built starring Matt Dillon. The ending of this movie is fantastic and might be one of the best endings I've seen.

I have no idea what this debate is about but pep'n'cheese is the unsung hero of FI and it wouldn't feel the same without him. ✊
