OT: Movies/TV Shows

I've never watched any of the Alien movies. Do you need to watch them all or does it stand alone?

i mean sure it stands alone but it's better if you've watched the others and more importantly why the fuck haven't you watched the others.

Alien and Aliens are two of the greatest movies ever.

Prometheus should also be watched for lore purposes.

the others are mediocre but watchable too.

For whatever reason they never appealed to me. I like sci-fi but I guess they always seemed like horror movies.

I'll have to just start at the beginning and work my way to Romulus.

Because of the Zodiac TV show I went back and watched the Fincher Zodiac film. I loved it when it came out, but it's truly one of the best films of the millennium . I prefer the director's cut of the 2 versions available.

One of the better instances of a recent masterpiece taking its time to get its audience but is now pretty universally beloved.

Assassination of Jesse James to a lesser degree is another that really got its laurels well after its release.

I watched Woman of the Hour about the dating game serial killer. It wasn't a bad film, but so much is made-up it's annoying if you know the story.
Fincher did a good job overall of sticking to the facts and making it a fascinating police procedural.

So I was talking to someone in their early 20’s about TV shows on the weekend. They asked me what I was watching right now, and I mentioned I was doing a re-watch of The Sopranos.

…to which they responded that they’d never heard of it, and asked if it was some kind of supernatural or sci-fi show.

...and then followed that up by telling me that they were watching a "really, really old TV show" called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Buffy started 27 years ago, in 1997.

A similarly old show in 1997 would have started in 1970.

Mary Tyler Moore show started in 1970. All in the Family didn't start until 1971. MASH in 1972.

If you were born In 1980, wizard of oz was 41 years old.

If you were born in 2024, the Apple Lisa, the first “pc” was 41 years old.

Weve come a long way b

I had some time to kill so i watched something called mindcage from 2022, on Netflix

The concept was a copycat murderer is on a killing of women spree, so the detectives need the help of the OG killer who is on death row

A very tired concept

but

the serial killer is John Malkovich with oddly long hair, who calls himself the artist and paints in his cell

and one of the detectives is Martin Lawrence trying to be serious, and also Martin Lawrence.

It was abysmal, but only 90 mins
