OT: Movies/TV Shows

My feelings on The Penguin: it was an OK show.

A solid B (maybe B+ if I am in a charitable mood). Was totally watchable, didn't make me question why I was watching it, and I didn't want to question any plot. Solid.

It did what it was suppose to do - give an "origin story" for one of it's Villains in the Batman world. I do like the option of an "origin" series instead of a movie. Gives the character more shading.

I read somewhere, that some Gen Z are calling it their gen's "The Sopranos", which is....... a big no from me.

No offence to anyone here or anyone in any universe that LOVES The Penguin, but this is what a stupid person thinks of as an A+ show.
I don't disagree with anything you said except the last point. I'm not sure it's an A+... but I wouldn't say you have to be stupid to think that.

IMDB has it rated at 8.8 right now and the Sopranos is at 9.2. I don't think that's too far off. Personally, I might give it an 8.5 and the Sopranos a 9.5.

I haven’t seen The Penguin or that Twilight-dude Batman movie, so I suppose I can’t really comment.

Even so, I’m still gonna say that anyone suggesting it’s comparable in quality to The Sopranos should be smacked upside the head. Va Fangool!!

Penguin is legit great. Probably easily the best comic book show. Obviously heavily influenced by the Sopranos which is probably where the easy comparisons come from.

personally i'm not sure Sopranos quite deserves its' pedestal either tho.

And The Batman is pretty cool. I can't quite take the people who put it ahead of Nolan's take but it's cool to see the current generation get their own really good version and they do love it.

I thought it was trying a bit too hard myself but there's no doubt it's good.

That's insane. People are rating it on par with the Sopranos??

Killing Vic is when the episode got really good imo. Killing off a weakness was necessary personally and practically and it's actually the real moment he becomes the Penguin.

Thing I didn't like about this episode tho is that Sofia was pretty much an idiot. Nothing she did made any sense at all. I mean the mom stuff was important to the penguin character but sofia shouldn't have cared enough about any of that to not just kill him and be done with it. Such a good character and that was her first really weak episode.

Sure, but they NEVER just kill their arch nemesis when they "should" in these movies.

She wanted to make him suffer like she had. Killing him would be too quick and easy.

Clint is 94 years-old and Juror #2 is really good.
Thing about Clint is his movies are "Lean", not bloated like every other one. He really is a master at good pacing and leaving-out nonsense.
To direct a film this good at 94...WOW!

Just looked it up.

Man, that sounds like really good movie. Definitely will be looking for that one.
