OT: Movies/TV Shows

For me it's not just that Colbert is worse on Late Night.....it's how drastically worse he is, to be point of making me wince more than he makes me laugh.

Kimmel is still by far the best imo, but even he in recent years had somewhat gotten away from being really original in the role, to settling into a comfortable late night routine of doing what's expected.

Thankfully for the Internet you don't need to watch any of them, and anything worth watching comes to you via youtube clips. But given how transformative Colbert was with the Report, (and how much I loved him on 'Strangers With Candy' before that, it's dissapointing to see just how painfully bad & unwatchable he is on Late Night.

I kind of regret not giving Craig more of a shot.....saw a video recently talking about how incredibly subversive and genre expanding he was. F*cking with the boundaries of the format, etc.

Gave me a new appreciation for him.

IMO it wasn't a great decision to go to another talk show. The format is too similar, and it can never be what everyone wants it to be.

He certainly took the piss out of Talk Shows regularly.

I can't be certain, but my guess is that Colbert is making like 5 times as much money now than he was. Great decision.

He'll unquestionably make more as Late Night Host tho.....Leno & Letterman made in the ballpark of $15-30 million a year just in salary as hosts, plus the added revenue such a thing brings for ones production company, increased value of one's brand, etc etc.

It's also why he's quite obviously (imo) playing the Leno game, of trying to appeal to as base an audience as possible to maximize his viewership & revenue generation.

Business wise, it's a brilliant move......and while many knocked Lenoh for it, he took way more pride in being able to appeal to a mass audience than he did making the small niche of the alt comedy community laugh, back when he was buddies with Letterman and was a "comedians comedian".

Colbert doesn't care that I'm less interested, he cares that Joe Q Sixpack in Wyoming is tuning in 5 nights a week.

Yeah, for sure, its the right move for him financially.

Not creatively though.

I heard Leno interviewed on Joe Rogan's podcast recently and that is exactly what he was talking about. Playing to the masses for success. Can't fault the guy for doing it.

We get cheated though. In fairness the Colbert Report probably would have tired at some point anyway. He got out on top.

Colbert has also eluded to (if not flat out said) being sick of playing a character for so long. Seems that creatively he was ready for a change, and to be "himself." I put that in quotations cause I doubt any of these guys can actually be themselves in late night either. Kimmel probably comes the closest.

Kimmel's adequate, and comes off as somewhat of a borderline depressive.

I agree that Colbert is tough to watch so far, but it's early yet. He needs to settle in and find his new rhythm.

I actually quite enjoy Fallon, but think that maybe he can cut down on all the singing bits.

And I still really like Conan. He's always worth the price of admission.

Rick & Morty and Review: with Forrest MacNeil keep getting better with every single show.

Two of the only shows I anxiously awaiting new episodes of each week.

I liked Fallon for a bit but I've grown really tired of his schtick.

Conan is really good but I almost never watch... but he frequently has bits go viral (or at least get a lot of play) that are just brilliant.

Like this one... so good.

I wouldn't be surprised if colbert did a solid 5 year run of his late night show, got bored and waliked yo do something more artistically challenging. He doesn't strike you as a guy who can fill his artistic hole with money

Trevor Noah is gonna kill it on the Daily Show.....for a guy who's stand up never did anything for me, he really impressed me in his debut.

Roy Wood, Jr >>>>>.....best correspondent they've had in eons.
