OT: Politics & News... Have at it.

We need to stop believing our system is sacrosanct. While it is nice having a tax paid system, it no longer works despite how much $$ we pay into it. How much more are we supposed to pay into the system?

It also doesn't matter who is in govt, the system is failing.

It fails because idiots keep electing people like Ford and Smith, who want to wreck rhe public system so that they can rationalize privatization. The system is broken because conservatives broke it on purpose.

You just have to look to other countries to see what works (not down south, with its vastly inferior life expectancy+higher costs). Some user fees and private insurance options could work like in Europe; when I lived in France I got a family doctor somewhat by accident and had no wait times.

Conservative provincial governments cannot be trusted to do anything but try and fully privatize the system. They are all in cahoots with private medical lobby groups and conservative Premiers stand to personally benefit financially from making privatization happen. This is less of a concern in Europe (the part that does not include America wannabe's in the UK) because they aren't afraid of the word "socialism". But here, with all these right-wing shitbags like Smith, Ford, Moe, and Poilievre? You can't trust any of them.

The BC Liberals are in no way affiliated with the Federal Liberals. They adopted the name because they had already made their previous name, the So-Cred Party, politically toxic, thanks to ol' Willy Woodenshoes and his Fantasy Garden of Corruption.
half were federal Liberal, half were federal Cons. It was an amalgamation to keep the dreaded socialists out of power which worked until the NDP and Greens made a backroom deal in 2017 to assume power like Hitler did through Von Papen and Von Hindenburg in 1934.

They did not screw up the system, and even if you want to blame them, NDP has been in power for 7 years, if anything it is worse.

don't you want parents to have a choice?

think of it this way, the more parents that put their kids in private, the less crowded the shitty public schools are
Parents already have a choice. They can send their kids to a public school for free via their taxes or they can pay to send their little darlings to a private school out of their own pocket. Why should their fellow taxpayers have money siphoned from the public system so that others can send their kids to a private school? It's not "private" if the public has to pay for it. You want to send little Ruettiger to some hoity-toity boys academy full of sodomites? Fine, and you can damn well pay for it yourself. There's no reason why the public education system which is already woefully under-funded by this neo-fascist provincial government should have even more of those funds divested to support a private system. None whatsoever.

then they should get to deduct from their taxes the portion they pay for public, shouldn't hit them up twice

you just hate people who want more for their tots

No. Sending your kid to a private school does not release you from the social obligation to pay into the public education system. That's not how any of this works. Public education is a public good and taxes are how those things get paid for. There is no "opting out". Everybody pays. Your choice to send your kid to a private school is yours alone and how you pay for it is a "you" problem, not a "we" problem. "We" are only obligated to support one, public system. What you do on the side is your own deal. You want it, you pay for it but you're still going to pay your taxes into the public education system. Noblesse oblige.
