OT: Post Corona - What Will Change?

ah, misunderstood. thought that was directed to me specifically.

one thing to consider is folks who have to try and balance child care and work obligations. can see how it would get stressful in a hurry.

but hey, I'm sure there are gonna be a lot of covid breakups. already had one at our office. awkwardly though they still live together...
Yeah I understand that, plus those with financial stress may be in tough too. I get it. I'm just one that looks after myself and my mental place above anything so if I was ever in that situation I'd like to think I wouldn't just accept it. All these years I've been getting the "locker room talk" about guys warning me about this and that and how family life and everything is terrible, women are evil and make your life miserable, and while in the throes of it, I'm sitting here like.. What the fuck are they talking about? It's fucking awesome. Maybe pick a better spouse?

Oh I fully recognize that I'm more of a rarity that likes humans and despises dogs. I get the dog thing in some ways, but for me it's a lot of effort put into something that is not even remotely rewarding for me. But that's just me. I don't mean to knock anyone that enjoys them; I realize I'm the weirdo.

But I do stand by finding it weird to live in a place where you hate everyone and would prefer to be at work. Again.. I realize it's a thing and I hear all about it constantly. But like... Why?

I'm with you. I think pets are cute and fun and all, but I have zero interest in living with one. Ever. I don't get how people basically set up their worlds around their pets these days. I have enough stress trying to figure out where I'm going to get the time for my next lunch, not to mention having to worry about feeding a pet's face five times a day. Taking a dog for walks and picking up his shit. Having their smell and hair all over my home. Having them destroy my stuff. Needing to plan my social life around when I have to get home and feed or walk the pet. Not to mention all the money thrown at keeping them fed, maintained, and healthy (surgeries!). I mean, I find it absolutely crazy.

I see these people walking their dogs, putting their bagged hands around their fresh shit, and storing it away wherever till they can throw it out. All I can say is, the dog must be having quite a laugh at the human who walks after them picking up their shit. I know I do.

I’ve been within a 15 mins walk to work for the past 15 yrs (various employers) and I still prefer WFH. Better food options, and less BS meetings.
20 minute drive for me for the last 5 years. Still sucks ass.

Old Seinfeld bit. Aliens landing on earth would think dogs are our masters.

I’m within 5 minutes and pay to have an office I can be at instead of here all day. And I have a home office too! It’s groundhogs day when I work from home and I hate it.

I'm definitely going to try to finagle a 3/2 split or something similar going forward when things get closer to normal. I honestly don't mind the office, but home has a few advantages that I'd like to take advantage of, especially when the weather gets warmer. Moving out of the GTA and reducing my costs would be huge too if I could go full time WFM, but I doubt the company goes for it.

15 minute commute home? Well, shit, I wouldn't mind going into the office either then.
and technically I live in the city and work in a suburb!

wifey normally has a ~15 min walk to work downtown / <5 min bike ride

7 min drive to the park on the ocean where I take the dog/run

<5 min walk from two massive green spaces nearby too.

I have a lot of fun around pets when I'm at other people's houses. Totally get the warmth they bring to a home. But it's just another form of entertainment that I don't need or want the hassle of having full time.

He does seem quite the miserable sod, doesn't he?

I call it sanitary. The sight of pet owners kissing their pets on the mouth, when that mouth is used to clean the pet's ass, and having the pet lick your face all over...just gross. There's a guy at hockey who brings his dog and at the end of the games he kneels down and has the dog lick the sweat off of his face and head, for like a full minute, full on neck and up saliva wash. I mean, it's shockingly disturbing, some of these interactions.
