OT: Soccer thread

So, with Tim Leiweke's hand-picked GM leaving to go to Columbus, combined with Giovinco's departure, does this mean TFC's going back to the "bad old days"?

Dark times ahead for TFC.

The shitty part is that the recent success of the franchise didn't help in bringing in significantly more fans to the stadium or to watch on TV. Not sure they'll be able to spend as much as they did the last few years as the market here just isn't there. It sucks as I loved going to games the last few years supporting a winner.

Rumors of TFC having interest in Sofiane Hanni of Spartak Moscow. Probably a good player for MLS but likely a downgrade.

Well at least tickets will be cheaper once MLSE gets desperate again.

don't they sell out every game?

Do you have any evidence to support this claim? I find this highly dubious. That place was rammed when they were good.

I'm on my phone right now. We had only 1 sell out last year. Operated at 85.9% capacity for the season. Up from the mid 70s% prior to Giovinco.

I'll look up the tv numbers again when I get home.

Rumors coming out that Hanni would be a Vasquez replacement. Another player is rumored to be "in prime" to take over the DP slot left by Giovinco.

We'll see. Maybe they get it right. Giovinco gave us the best we've ever had so I'm sad to see him go. A decision was made clearly motivated by money. As great as Gio was for us he's already in decline. He'll be missed.

according to Wikipedia, TFC's attendance was down this season about 1,000 / game from 2017. however that still placed TFC above league average at 26,628 (capacity at BMO is 30,000, league average was 21,873)

in 2017, TFC had the 3rd highest attendance in the league, behind Atlanta and Seattle (who both have substantially larger stadiums).

so attendance did drop last season, and they don't sell out every game.

See how this plays out but sam is usually fairly connected:

In case there was any doubt... Toronto plan to go big to replace Giovinco and Vazquez. Told club is aiming to sign a younger attacker as a DP in next couple weeks. If signed, the fee will likely be among the highest in MLS history. Targeting 1-2 TAM signings this window, as well.

Well canada beat USA at hone last night 2-0.
Puts us in 6th in Concacaf (which would qualify us for the HEX) also top of our nations league group
