OT: Soccer thread

It's still a little embarrassing that we're even comparable to such tiny poor countries tbh.

But this Canada team is starting to take care of these kinds of teams finally and might just start ranking up where they always should have ranked with our population and wealth.

Right now Haiti is a handful of spots lower than us in the rankings though our recent run of blowouts might mean the rankings are lagging our play right now.

May be a different inter continental than instated before. 2018 was Oceania but it could be a draw vs other confederations.

The small concacat nations have gotten big boosts from dual nationals recently. Surname wasnt a bunch of scrubs like they would have been 18 months ago.

We have just built a good program with top end, young talents.

...for the first time ever.

It's amazing to see even our subs capable of making precise cross field passes and make intelligent runs.

Very quick check on wiki, which might be totally dated... 8 players are born in France, and there are a handful from the US and Canada. So, they may have had some polished academy training as youth. None of them appear to play for major clubs.

So, we have the big pedigree guys, but there’s a strong chance Haïti will keep it tight and try to be opportunistic. Classic stuff.

Even so... hex is tough to get 4th. Doable, but likely a batte with CRC, T&T and Panama for 2 spots. I assume, despite the skullduggery from 2018, Mex and US will be 1 and 2.

Given their youth and recent run of play, Canada might already actually deserve to be ranked higher than this and maybe even up in that JAM/CRC range.

Was just reading a review re: France. Crazy deep talent. As one person said, their biggest flaw is that only 11 first-team quality players or allowed on the pitch at once...

Dayot Upamecano is said to be the best young CB in Europe. Bayern just paid a cool €42M for him. Couldn’t make the squad, even as a reserve. He’d make any other team in the world and he’d be a stater for all of them maybe save 5 or 6 countries.

xgf 62.3% for Italy

I like the youth movement— in the past Italia has tried to squeeze the last drop from a bunch of vets
