OT: Soccer thread

Canada didn't look very good in the first leg despite the win imo. Tho maybe that had something to do with the heat and the laughable pitch which played to Haiti's hacktastic strengths. Hopefully they look better in a real stadium today because if they can't clearly outclass Haiti there's not much chance of them making the world cup.

Meh. Those CONCACAF away games are almost always goat rodeos. Skittish refs. Terrible fields. Not easy for a diaspora team that barely know each other.

Yeah we'll see. They've looked legit very good in the handful of other games I've watched recently. I hope today is convincing....because I'm starting to believe they're finally legit at at least a similar level to the likes of Jamaica and Costa Rica.

Which shouldn't be an accomplishment for Canada, but kinda is.

That pitch is brand new other than it flooding vs Nicaragua a week earlier, plus it shows they didnt water the turf to slow down the canadian attack. Mid day in haiti (who are probably top 6/7 in concacaf) and coming away with a result is a big result.

Haiti doesn't suck that's true. But they're kind of on the same level of where Canada has been, while Canada has to show they're on the next tier (I.e. jamaica/crc) if they want to qualify.

They beat USA at home in 2018/2019.

Tonight is massive and if they get the result they should get i hope the mainstream media gives them the attention they deserve (including picking up the games on TSN for the next round).

Just like tennis this crop of young men are world class and deserve to get the spotlight.

Oh I think they'll get a whole bunch of attention if they close this one out.

But I'm looking for them to convince us that they have a good chance of coming out of that octagon in 3rd place.

3rd would be excellent. Not sure where CRC is now, but they were clearly better than us 5 or 6 years ago. And I thought Panama was a rising force?

The rankings are only guidelines but generally I think they're about right.

MEX and US in a legit world class tier.

JAM and CRC good but a tier below.

Then the bigger group where CAN sits - along with HON, SLV, CUW, PAN, HAI, and maybe T&T.
