OT: Soccer thread

Azzurri getting me amped.

They've embarrassed 2 pretty good teams. Given up 1 scoring chance in each and easily deserving of 3 goals in each AT LEAST.

And with injuries to key players too.

Am I the only one that is not impressed with Italy's defense and decision making? I feel this team will struggle against better teams.

Hopefully Verratti will make it back sooner than later, he's a beast with the ball.

Not impressed?

Literally one chance allowed in each game.

I dunno who comes out for Verratti. Locatelli isn't just the youngest scorer in the tourney so far but he's big and fast and he's the one sending those beauty longball passes down the wing. Tough call.

Italy's last 3 opponents rankings:

(4-0) CZE --> ELO #14 EURO / #20 WORLD --> FIFA #22 EURO / #40 WORLD
(3-0) TUR --> ELO #19 EURO / #34 WORLD --> FIFA #18 EURO / #29 WORLD
(3-0) SWI --> ELO #11 EURO / #16 WORLD --> FIFA #9 EURO / #13 WORLD
(Sun) WAL -> ELO #10 EURO / #15 WORLD --> FIFA #12 EURO / #17 WORLD

I know it sounds strange saying that considering their streak and all, but the chances they've been giving up could end up costing them against a stronger team.

FYI, I'm of Italian descent, so I support this team, but they seem a bit wobbly back there at times against weaker sides...

Verratti is Italy's version of Lionel Messi in my opinion. He makes the team instantly better.

I've actually been rewatching all the game highlights for every tourney game for italy since 1982. I'm up to 2012 now.

And I'm shocked by how loose defensively so many of those great defensive teams were. This squad has been legit suffocating in both games imo. Maybe 1 or 2 breakdowns each game at worst imo.

Yeah he's their modern day pirlo but has kind of been a disappointment in tourney play. Locatelli is looking amazing and Jorginho touches the ball more than any guy on the team....I'm not sure it's an easy call to put verratti back in, especially if he's not 100%.
