OT: Soccer thread

Looks like CONCACAF has rejected the plan unanimously. Apparently their public statement notes:

“…the need for private equity investment to fund new and existing FIFA Forward programs following the most profitable FIFA World Cup in history was questioned.

Which is a damn good point.


I’m actually a bit shocked CONCACAF rejected this unanimously. I just assumed that Trump had surely infiltrated & corrupted US Soccer by now, and that they’d support this plan on behalf of their God Emperor.
 
Can't see how he does, but maybe I'm not properly calibrated to 2026 expectations on corruption. There is so much that is just assumed and expected now
 
I expect part of his problem is that some other slippery administrative reptiles had their noses out of joint because they were’t consulted and weren’t cued up to get their taste and patronage to dish out.

Infantino may well go down, but doesn’t change the fact that soccer is sitting on a colossal money machine and run by an, more or less, unaccountable and corrupt Euro-trash non-profit.

This might just be kicking the can down the road.
