OT: The Because Science Thread (Now With Aliens!)

The high tide hasnt even hit yet. Much more damage expected. Was reading a two storey apar building got swept away an hour ago

 
My thoughts and best hopes for the people in its path. Unfortunately up north does not have the same construction requirements and the damage will be severe. So bloody brutal.
 
Just read lady got swept out trying to escape her house. Unfortunately she wont be an isolated incident. A lot of small towns around the coast have houses right on the shore line
 
We see surges more often then not, especially in that area of the island so Im guessing a lot of folks brushed this off as another storm and didnt take it seriously before it was too late.

I recall my house shaking as a kid during hurricanes and I grew up in a sheltered harbour
