OT: The News Thread

I mean, I don’t have any objection to it. Just a lack of curiosity about the product.

For starters, I don’t feel any need to cut back on the amount of meat I consume. And with any food in general, if I have the option, I’d rather get the genuine article than something artificially flavoured to taste like it.

Because I’ve been on a health/weight loss kick since the fall, I also don’t eat many fast food burgers these days. So on the rare occasion that I do get the urge to treat myself to one, I can’t see myself opting for the meatless burger instead, especially if the calories are generally the same and the meat alternative is some ultra-processed slurry.

My problem with vegetarian food is when it tries to imitate meat. Veggie burgers, cauliflower steak, etc It'll never be as good. There are plenty of vegetarian dishes that are great on their own. We don't need to mimick meat and fall short of how great the meat version is.

Sure. You also have nothing to lose by trying a beyond meat product.

It either reinforces your opinion on veggie products or your pleasently surprised how close to meat they got.

Again, I hate veggie burgers, but if someone didn't tell me I was eating a beyond meat burger I wouldn't have guessed it wasn't meat.

I've heard similar things, and do want to go try one sometime to see for myself. I'm not going to convert until the price of the fake meat comes down, and it's actually proven to be somewhat healthier than an actual burger.

But if we can get to the point that we can otherwise create meat that's more environmentally sustainable, tastes as good, and provides all the nutrients of meat, all for the same price or less, then why not switch?

I'm a hunter.
I have a freezer full of wild meat I harvested and processed myself.
But ....
I love veggie burgers.

I have always liked the Harvey's veggie burgers.

But I agree, the price is a bit high.

We bought some veggie burgers from pinos and it was 20 for 6 burgers .... they were delicious, but they started to break apart during the cooking process.

Veggie burgers are gross.

Beyond meat actually tastes and cooks like meat.

No comparison

Beyond burgers are legit good. I also have time for cauliflower wings.

I love real meat, and could never be a vegetarian, but environmentally and ethically factory farming is problematic. So if the alternatives finally taste good, I am all for it.

i've never actually had a veggie burger. they just look gross.

I haven't tried a beyond meat burger yet but mostly because i just never go fast food anymore.

but there's a ton of good vegan meat/cheese-immitating food out there. tasty as shit.

I tried the Tims veggie sausage and it tastes like someone poured a bottle of all spice into. Very sweet and salty thing going on but over barring

But they are fairly expensive in my opinion.

But it is like gluten free foods .... very very expensive.

I don't know what it costs in stores yet, my Costco didn't have any, but my burger costs the same and the breakfast sandwich i got at tims wasn't more than usual. 4.29 I think. Nothing crazy.

expensive. two 4 ounce patties run you 7.99 in Canada

So $16/lb. I can get a heavenly mix of chuck/ribeye/brisket for less.

Anyone who doesn't believe in climate change can eat my ass. Guadalajara got 40 inches of ****ing hail last night. 1 night. Guadalajara, at the tail end of their summer (it is 30+ pretty much every day in June)

Search Guadalajara on twitter for the gifs. ****ing mind blowing. Major streets turned into meter deep rivers of flowing hail.

Is that river flowing towards or away from Trump’s wall? He wants to know.

In all seriousness, I hope nobody was hurt. That’s awful.
