OT: The News Thread

Re: OT - The News Thread

he doesn't "want them off the planet". don't exaggerate to try to make your point.

and yes, hopeychange bringing in toby keith would be the equivalent of this. toby keith is the penultimate right wing good-ol' boy- anathema to hopeychange and what he stands for.

In 2004, Keith called himself "a Conservative Democrat who is sometimes embarrassed for his party."

wikipedia ftw!

Re: OT - The News Thread

do these lyrics (from "angry american: courtesy of the red white and blue") sound like they were sung by a democrat?

American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Ole Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Ohhh Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Uhhh Ohhh
Of the Red, White and Blue
Ohhh Ohh Oh
Of My Red, White and Blue

Re: OT - The News Thread

In a January 2007 interview with Newsday, Keith was asked whether he supported the Iraq War. He responded with "Never did", and said he favors setting a time limit on the campaign.

In April 2009, he voiced support for Obama on Afghanistan and other decisions: "He hired one of my best friends who I think should run for president someday...Gen. James Jones as a national security adviser. He's sending troops into Afghanistan, help is on the way there. And I'm seeing some really good middle range stuff. I'm giving our commander in chief a chance before I start grabbing. So far, I'm cool with it."

Re: OT - The News Thread

(PEOPLE.com) -- Elton John may have seemed like the last person expected to perform at Rush Limbaugh's wedding over the weekend.

Limbaugh, 59, has made a number of colorful remarks about gays that have sparked outrage -- and kept his conservative credentials intact. But on some issues, they do share common ground.

Limbaugh, for instance, told Zev Chafetz, author of the Limbaugh biography "Army of One," that he supports civil unions for gay couples instead of marriage -- a point on which Limbaugh and the openly gay John agree.

"I don't want to be married," John said in 2005 when he and David Furnish tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony. "If gay people want to get married or get together, they should have a civil partnership. The word 'marriage,' I think, puts a lot of people off."

Re: OT - The News Thread

ok. sounds like he's the most right wing democrat alive then if he writes and sings those lyrics.

There's a lot more than kicking ass and foreign policy that defines the right-left spectrum. I'd bet there's tons of democrats out there who are very gun-happy and wanting to fight, but are on the left of the spectrum on things like the social safety net, health care, gay rights, abortion, etc...

Re: OT - The News Thread

Once again, KB is completely and totally out to lunch on this one. The Toby Keith analogy is a fail of KB magnitude that no other poster on the planet could duplicate.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I see you missed the point also. Limbaugh has always hated gays. Wants them off the planet. But he still hired one for his wedding, and in particular, he hired one that actively and vocally fights for the rights of gays - something directly opposite to what Limbaugh fights for.
You seem to have made up points to support what is really a stupid argument.

Rush Limbaugh wants gays off of the planet? Ridiculous.

Re: OT - The News Thread

yes. but apparently not as "ridiculous" as suggesting that someone who wrote a song called "angry american: courtesy of the red white and blue" might have republican tendencies.

Re: OT - The News Thread

There's nothing Republican about those song lyrics at all.

Unless of course you're trying to insinuate that anger and patriotism are solely Republican traits.

But what would be incredibly stupid, and you're above that.

Re: OT - The News Thread

I also don't think that Mr Keith would appreciate you saying that he's gay.

I'm not quite sure what else you could mean by "Republican tendencies".

Re: OT - The News Thread

You claimed that Toby Keith has "republican tendencies".

That's as close as one can come to outright calling him a gay.

Re: OT - The News Thread

What's next, you're going to suggest that he needs help carrying his bags? Or uses a wide stance while in the john?

Re: OT - The News Thread

I'm an idiot, but you somehow found those lyrics to be republican.

I'd rather be an idiot than a raging ideologue. At least an idiot doesn't have to wait for his party sponsored talking points before he can open his mouth to sound foolish.

Re: OT - The News Thread

you caught me, ME. the republican party was just saying this morning that we should all go out and talk about toby keith today. it came right from party headquarters.
