Yeah, the big delay in denying the video is weird.
Yeah, the big delay in denying the video is weird.
Two important developments happened Thursday night in Gawker’s Rob Ford “Crackstarter” campaign: someone donated $10,000, and editor John Cook admitted he hasn’t been able to get in touch with the owner of the alleged Ford crack video since Sunday.
The U.S. website’s crowd-funding campaign is seeking to buy the smartphone video that allegedly shows Toronto Mayor Rob Ford appearing to smoke crack cocaine. The video is being shopped around by a group of Somali men involved in the drug trade, the Toronto Star previously reported.
“At the rate it's going, we will reach our goal by Saturday, if not sooner,” Cook wrote in his update (the campaign is nearly breaking $160,000 of its $200,000 goal).
Around the same time Cook posted his update, the campaign received a $10,000 contribution, earning the donor “the actual iPhone that was used to record the video,” according to Gawker.
But it’s possible the video may never surface now.
“We were initially made aware of the video by a tipster, who connected us with the owner of the video after we traveled to Toronto,” Cook wrote. “We've been in relatively constant communication with the tipster since then. But he has told us that hasn't been able to make contact with the owner of the video in recent days.”
The campaign ends on Monday afternoon. Cook is hoping he’s able to make contact with the owner of the video by then, or that the owner will make contact once the goal is reached.
If the goal is reached and Gawker is unable to acquire the video, Cook said he’ll donate the proceeds to a Canadian nonprofit that addresses substance abuse issues.
You don't honestly think hed have gone so far as to try to KILL the dealers, do you? Why would he do that? To save a political career even he knows is all but dead? To piss off a group of drug dealers and expose himself and his family to reprisals?
I'm going to go with "bought"....well off family, 200K is pretty easy for him to scrape together I'd imagine.
ford is now saying that the video 'doesn't exist'.
so, ya... he either had the kid killed or he bought the video
I feel sorry for you loss. You were oh so ready to string the rope and now, you just have to speculate and cry!
Evidence? Who needs to put up with that kind of inconvenience. Maybe NEXT TIME, you finally get to lynch someone on innuendo and gossip.

Yep...if I had to throw out a guess on the chronology...dude asked the Ford camp for 200K, got told to **** off. Dude took video to gawker, gawker and the Star verified it's authenticity and started the crackstarter campaign because the star has a policy about not paying that type of money for information. Team Ford thought they could just "cones of silence" the issue, and probably believed that up until the crackstarter campaign hit 100K+ and it looked more and more likely that the video would come to light at the price the somali dude was originally extorting it for....Team Ford said **** it and bought the thing.
It changes absolutely nothing though...dude needs to go.
The Vatican has just announced that, despite what Pope Francis said in his homily earlier this week, atheists are still going to hell.
What a relief. For a brief moment there it was possible to imagine a brave new world of compassion, generosity and acceptance, not qualities we have come to associate with the Holy See.
Said Pope Francis this week: 'The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone!'
That seemed like a pretty clear admission that people of other faiths and none have intrinsic worth to God and will be saved alongside the faithful. But this turned out to be wishful thinking.
Although they are otherwise good, moral people they are still doomed to burn in a lake of fire for having the temerity to have been born outside of Catholicism or having chosen to remain so.
The Rev. Thomas Rosica, a Vatican spokesman, spelled it out for the world on Thursday. People who know about the Catholic church 'cannot be saved' if they 'refuse to enter her or remain in her,' he said.
So that's one tall order of eternal hellfire for the rest of us, then.
It makes for an interesting spectacle to see the infallible pope being corrected by his handlers, doesn't it? For a moment it was possible to recall the welcoming and indulgent style of the short lived Pope John Paul I in the unexpectedly all-embracing words of Pope Francis. But you'll recall how quickly John Paul I was replaced by the much more doctrinaire John Paul II.
There's no question that Pope Francis sees the divinity in all human beings, but that's a message that comes with caveats. God may make them all, Jew and Gentile, but unless they're Catholic they're ultimately kindling. The Vatican waited 24 hours to correct him, but they corrected him.
Yes, yes, the Council of Trent clearly taught that Jesus Christ, humanity's one and only Redeemer, redeemed both Jew and Gentile. But there is a huge difference between redemption and salvation. See how that works? Judas Iscariot was redeemed by Christ's death on the cross, but he was not saved - Catholics believe he is damned in hell.
To be justified requires faith - and that faith must be Catholic. You see where this is going?
If I was Pope Francis, I'd be employing a food tester right about now.

right. something that has lasted over 2000 years and has been a major force in human organization and development is a "fairy tale" not to be "taken seriously".
