Honestly, that would be a failure on the Nets side of things imo. KD can be blamed for a lot here, but the Nets FO putting an insane asking price out there for KD isn't on him. If there were trade packages involving OG + Gary or Jaylen Brown + stuff as has been rumoured, the Nets turning that down for a 34 yr old who doesn't want to be there is weapons grade stupidity. Trade him, gets the stuff and move on. Then trade Kyrie to the Lakers for Westbrick, THT, and all of their available 1sts. The Nets FO is trying to take out their frustration with KD on the acquiring teams here, and that's just a bad way to manage this. I'm all for trying to hold the line to get reasonable value for a player (like we should have done with Vince, for example)...but you have to be reasonable on what the value of a guy is here.
Utah got 4 okay 1sts and not much else for Gobert, and the gap between Gobert and Durant in impact last year isn't as big as most observers would think (KD was 5th in EPM, Rudy was 10th). Getting a pile of scrubs along with 4 1sts isn't the massive haul the media made it sound like. Expecting KD to get you all of the good stuff in that package, and then 2 young above average starters and then basically any other asset the Nets FO wants for KD has always been fucking lunacy. None of that is KD's fault.
