OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

and here's the thing...that's a normal NBA bench doing normal NBA bench things. Only 6 games going tonight, we saw Hart & DiVincenzo make impacts, but here's more:

- Shamet, Kispert, & Coulibaly combined for 40 points on 15/26 shooting including 7/9 from outside
- Orlando got an efficient 32 with a bunch of other stuff from Ingles and Mo Wagner
- Grizzlies got a very efficient 51 from Nowell, Aldama, & Williams to beat Dallas...who didn't get much scoring from their bench other than a solid 12 from the other Curry
- Philly got 29 from Covington & Mo Bamba...Covington throwing in a Scottie Barnes type effort with 5 steals as well. Boston didn't get much other than a nice shooting night from Hauser and Pritchard being Pritchard.
- San Antonio got 48 points from their bench in a losing effort against the Pelicans, who got 18 points in 22 bench minutes from Trey Murphy

This is normal. Every night, almost every game in the NBA sees bench players making positive impacts. "Bench" is not synonomous with trash. In Toronto though, trash is the norm. 25 points on 11/33, including a fucking hilarious 1/9 from outside. May as well have stayed on the fucking bus.
it's not just the scoring.

the d is not good, and the only one that can shoot is... boucher?

Yeah, scoring was just the easiest thing to bash them on after taking a look at some of the other games from tonight. Nothing DiVincenzo or Hart did tonight is some crazy once in a season (or even a month) performance from a bench, it was just good. Regular ass good. The Knicks probably got the best bench performance out of the 6 finished games so far, but not by a lot or anything.

I get the fear, but there's a good reason OG hasn't signed yet (he's not eligible for a 30% max extension, but is an obvious contender for DPOY, which if he wins it makes him eligible) and I can't see Masai walking him to free agency and not throwing every dollar at him that we're capable of to keep him. Fred and Houston was a bit of a special circumstance imo, where a dogshit young team with a fuckton of capspace was willing to toss 3/145 for a team dad. There's lots of teams that will be interested in OG, but I think there's a much different needle to thread with him. He's been pretty clear in interviews that he wants to stay in Toronto (Fred was way, way more non committal in mid season interviews about his free agency than OG has been), and I don't see him going to a dogshit team for the bag like Fred did. The good teams don't have the 35-40 million that it's going to take to pry him out of here imo (max we can offer him is 4/117 unless he wins DPOY).

- Philly might, but there's a ton of gymnastics they would have to go through I think. They would have to renounce a pile of free agents bird rights to get away from the cap holds, limiting their ability to put a roster around Embiid and Maxey (who is due a rookie max extension this summer as well, and I think...think has to be signed before free agency opens or he can get offer sheeted). I think they could in theory fit Embiid-OG-Maxey in, but that's about 120 million on 3 players, which would leave them with only one other player under contract (Jaden Springer) and only 20 million or so before in cap before they'd have to use their exceptions.

- We know Phoenix loves him, but KD-Booker-Beal is already 150 million on the books next year

- No one is going to convince me that teams who never spend to the cap like Indiana or Orlando are going 40 deep on OG

- Sacto loves him, but doesn't have the cap or budget space without significant moves

- Dallas loves him, but already has 158 million on the books for next season

- OKC is a concern and could make it work, but they already have their own OG in Jalen Williams

Obviously a lot can change in the cap picture with trades through out the season and I can be wrong about OG's willingness to go to a bad team for a bag, but Fred to Houston was a bit of a weird situation where positional need, & rebuild timing w/ 40+ million in cap space laying around just happened to be a thing.

This was more informative to me than any Athletic article I’ve read on the Raps this year. Great stuff. 👌🏼

NBA rumour update: Boredom edition

- San Antonio is expected to check the market on 3 players. Devonte Graham, Cedi Osman, & McDermott. All 3 would be some level of use to us because shooting is still a necessity apparently. None are good defensively, but neither is any of the non shooting dogshit we have on the bench now.

- Demar to the Heat is starting to get media traction and it kinda makes sense, but only kinda. He's basically half of the Jimmy. Mid range/slashers who do a lot of different things of value at the offensive end, but are limited 3 point shooters. Demar doesn't do that whole defence thing though. This makes sense if this is a Duncan Robinson based trade, or it's a 3 way Tyler Herro trade where they get something else back that is pretty okay. and does the whole defence thing. Portland kinda famously didn't want him for Dame, but maybe Jerami Grant? Lakers and Knicks have come up as possibilities as well.

- Apparently the Pistons have jumped into the Zach Lavine sweepstakes, which would be kind of hilarious. They have lots of salary balast on disappointing young guys + Bogdan that would get the deal done....and Zach doesn't have any sort of trade protection, and Detroit is technically not Chicago. Something like Bogdan/Harris + Bagley/Wiseman + stuff would be a salary match.

- Bucks are interested in a 25 yr old kid buried on Orlando's bench. Okeke would be an interesting rotation project for them. He's a 6'6 SF with a 7 foot wingspan and he can't shoot. Can't believe we haven't pursued him yet.

- Lakers would prefer to move Rui & D'Ro rather than Lemon Daddy Reaves and they're shopping on anything and everything right now. Demar + Caruso is probably top of their list.
