OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

The comeback was encouraging, the 3 point defending was not. Sacto can shoot it, but a lot of those looks were open. Games like that show where the game is and where it's going and is one of the reasons I'm okay with moving on from Pascal if there is real value out there for him (as previously discussed, a legit young starter with upside left and a high rotation piece, preferably a shooter). Pascal is a good offensive player but only really a good one, and I think just spreading those Pascal possessions between Quickley and Scottie to initiate isn't going to hurt us, give them another floor spacer and it might actually make our offence more efficient overall.

I don't think it's right to just look at it as Trade pieces = Pascal. It's Trade pieces + cap savings = Pascal. Whatever package we end up with, there's going to be 10-20 million in cap space to be redistributed to moar shooting in the summer.

Team needs a shake up period , no longer in the contending mix

Have to transition away from Fred , OG , and Siakam and run with Barnes and move on

I'm not so convinced that this group, with some shuffling of bad salary into good salary couldn't be a contender level team. Not elite contender unless Scottie goes full Kawhi imo though, sure, but full "we the north" level 55 wins and 2nd-3rd round playoff runs? Yeah, no problem. I don't think they need to transition away from Pascal for the sake of transitioning away from Pascal. I just see an opportunity to get an impact young player who is valuable now and maybe better later (possibly/probably better than Pascal) in addition to a good bench piece and some cap relief. I would opt to overpay Pascal rather than lose him, but it's definitely going to be an overpay. He's not a max player imo and having him take up 30% of our cap into his 30's probably isn't ideal.

This team needs additions, but I don't think they need a shakeup anymore. They've got 3 all-star level talents, 3 borderline starter types, and then one good bench piece in boosh (though maybe Jontay makes that 2). It's not a deep squad.

Siakam is a big decision but i'm fine with keeping him or trading him as long as a top young talent comes back.

But it sure was fun seeing how good the bench was without Precious, Gary, and hardly any McDaniels last night.

The raptors defensive problems last night started with their refusal early to slow down the offense. Their d was never able to set and exhausted themselves chasing the ball.

Mindz mentioned the decision to have Scottie on their guards.....which is especially weird in this matchup because Scottie is such a perfect Sabonis antidote. Pretty sure the defense looked better with Schroder and Quickley out there marking the guards with Scottie inside.

but yeah they started poorly in this one.....but it was a 10:30pm start for them too. that's always an advantage for west coast teams.

Scottie chasing Fox around when he works off ball from Sabonis initiating is some galaxy brain shit.

55% on high volume is a little extreme. They shot better from 3 than from 2 last night.

Eh, we're one of the worst teams in the league at defending the 3. This the 2nd or 3rd time this year we've given up 50+% from 3. Milwaukee off the top of my head did this to us ~6 weeks ago.

I mean sure - we ourselves have shot 50% on 3s 3-4 times this year. It happens.

CP3 broke his hand and is out indefinitely. Here’s the expiring salary matching to make a Siakam deal work.

Paul + Moody + Kuminga works in the trade checker.

Honestly, would rather rehabilitate Wiggins than take expiring CP3's salary just as a junk match.

With the rumoured names out there in trade, I'd put Kuminga behind Murray and Jalen Johnson personally, but ahead of Mathurin/Jarace Walker.

Fwiw, those sacto and atlanta packages are the only two I've seen rumoured that I would pull the trigger on if Pascal has indicated that he wants to re sign here. The GSW stuff would be fine if Pascal won't commit and the other 2 options aren't available

Probably have to take a chance on one of the younger guys before they get to a level where they are near untouchable. Jalen Johnson last year wasn’t looked at as he is today. Mathurin was higher regarded after his rookie season.

Is Kuminga that guy? Is Mathurin? Walker? These are the next ones if you’re not getting Murray or Johnson.

GS should be all in on Siakam. He’d be a seamless fit there. Gives Curry a solid #2 option. Only so much time left before Father Time hits Curry.

Kuminga >> Mathurin+Walker imo

My issue with the GSW kids is that they both want bigger roles because they're trying to get paid soon. Now, Kerr has done a pretty shit job of giving them a decent sized role and just leaving them in it, so maybe they're not looking for an outsized role but more of a consistent thing. If Kuminga is looking for 15 shots a night to get a 9 figure rookie extension, this isn't the place for that imo. If he's looking to fight with RJ for that starting spot on the wing and is happy with 6th man type minutes and role, okay. Moody similar. He's offensively limited but defends well. We've got room for that on the bench, but it's a bench role. Kuminga and Moody are getting 22 and 18 minutes a night respectively. There isn't much more than that for them here either.
