OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

re: Lewis and Nora

- Lewis is a small, quick twitch PG who has some dribble penetrate & kick in his game but currently doesn't shoot or defend well enough to be in a NBA rotation. Was a decent shooter in college though, and is a knock down FT shooter so in theory there's something there in his shooting to be developed

- Nwora looked like he was on his way to being a functioning 3&D wing. Not a great one, but functioning. Is fluid/smooth but not overly athletic. Can shoot the ball, has shown flashes of being an okay wing defender.

Both are throw ins imo, but both are also worth giving some development and opportunity to.

The goal for the rest of the season should be playing anyone who might be part of the future with as much run as possible, including these two guys. If a Thad cant be moved at the deadline, oh well, sorry, no playing time for you IMO

I've reconsidered on Brown.

- not old
- very good defensively, which we need
- was legit good at 3pters the previous 2yrs

Yeah, Brown is a nice player and will help here if we keep him. That we have the option of dangling him to the market now, but bringing him back if all we're getting is bullshit offers is nice. I've got no problem with him as our starting SG this year and next.

I do think someone is going to be willing to pay us for him at this deadline though, so doubt he'll be here long.

Yeah, exactly. When Jake is back, Thad's rotation minutes go away imo. May as well feature him now and see if anyone will give up a kid they don't want for him.

Yeah, give the expirings some run before the deadline to see if anyone bites, but after, i want to see Nwora, Kira, and G-League stuff getting actual bench minutes. Find out what these guys can do.

Making the play in is no longer relevant.

This isn't a "rebuild" though. Rebuilds don't start with 22 yr old Scottie, they start with 19 yr old Scottie. A rebuild is when you've torn down and turn to the draft to build your core. We have something resembling a good young core now, we just need to build around it now.
This is correct enough, but what im taking away from this presser is there wont be an immediate need to flip these picks or taking the most NBA ready player. I still think they will pick the guy who might be 2 years away from being 3 years away if they think that timeline leads to Siakam 2.0

In no way does this feel like a splurge for Markannen deal.

And if the draft is as weak as im hearing, flipping like OKC pick might not net as much as one would hope.

I think you're reading too much into Masai Speak there tbh. I think he's basically trying to say that we're not looking at a 3-6 year time frame of patiently tinkering away with the roster. We're looking at putting pieces around Scottie within the next 1-2 to help him grow into the role of being the guy.

also fwiw, I love that he singled out Scottie as the guy in this presser. Scottie's FGA have dropped since the trade and he's deferred too much to everyone around him imo. Watching him take the 4th quarter by the nuts last night was nice, and watching Masai talk about Scottie as the guy and not "we have 3 great young players, yadda yadda" it today is good imo.

It's wild to see the difference between a Masai presser and an Atkins one.

I expect a flip for players at the draft tbh. It just might not be all the picks for one guy. I could definitely see him target guys who are surplus or unhappy elsewhere like Kuminga but haven't broken out yet.
