OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Lakers trade D'Lo, someone named Maxwell Lewis, and 3 2nd rounders to Brooklyn for Dorian Finney Smith, and Shake Milton. Lakers are trying to salvage the season, Brooklyn committing to the tank.
I feel like Russell has been a Net and Laker three times each.

I also assume Brooklyn wins this deal?

Like, when is it fair to start evaluating the coaching and GM?

Coaching starts basically now imo. The roster is on the verge of being healthy for the first time, there's 5-6 weeks between now and the trade deadline so even guys who don't expect to stick around should have something to play for (a roster spot and role on a playoff team), and other guys should be fighting for roles/careers. The roster should be good enough to not look like a tank team, full stop.

The GM though, Masai has already used the rebuild word this season and as far as rebuilds go it's hard to be mad. Since the tear down started last year his moves have looked smart.

- OG & Pascal trades have turned out good when you consider all angles
- Had a banger of a draft
- The Davion trade is still clever AF even if Davion isn't worth moving forward with

This summer is big though, there's a lottery pick to not fuck up, there should be additional assets coming in from our deadline moves and we have both the salary and assets to advance the roster forward in a hurry. If he slow plays this summer though, I start to consider what a post Masai Raptors front office looks like if they're shit again next year.

End of the Christmas break is pretty much always the start of silly season in the NBA:

- Raptors rumoured to be looking for a new home for Bruce, which we knew, and Kelly Olynyk, which we didn't.
- Valanciunas and Brogdan allegedly available as well. Now, there's rumours out there that those two, the Raptors two and Jordan Clarkson are available "for second rounders", but I call bullshit on that. That sounds like an exec from a top 10 team spreading bullshit to try to help advance their lowball offers. No one cares about 2nd rounders in the 45-50th+ range, you're not getting good veteran rotation players on expiring deals for your junk and the 53 pick.
- Apparently something to do with Cam Johnson's contract complicates a deal for a capped team. Looks like he counts towards 27 million worth of cap hit instead of his 22.5 salary because of bonuses he's unlikely to hit. OKC appears to be most interested in him at the moment. Nets front office is clinically insane as usual and wants "multiple firsts" for Cam.
- Fox is drawing interest from SAS, Houston, and now apparently Miami.
- Suns are apparently looking at a Nurkic for Vucevic move.
- Bulls are also looking at finding a home for Lonzo and Lavine. Denver allegedly is interested in Lavine
- After vetoing a trade to Dallas last year, Kuzma seems a bit more interested in finding a new home after cratering his trade value this year. Apparently Sacramento is interested and Dallas still is as well.
- Memphis apparently offered Kennard, Konchar, and a very heavily protected 1st for DFS and the Nets took the Lakers offer instead.

this group is fugly

pug fugly even

This is why I hate tanking, especially once you have players in house you'd like to move forward with. It's so, so fucking easy for losing to become habitual and it gets to the point where it ruins players, ruins careers. Everything I've said about this season so far and injuries fucking it up still holds imo, but losing all of those close games and lacking winning vets is showing on this groups morale right now. I'm not going to say that Darko has lost the room or anything, but he sure doesn't have them right now.

i mean we're starting mitchell agbaji and walter against the champs. three guys who shouldn't be in a top-8.

even if the raps were fully healthy they'd be in tough to keep it close against the celts.

It looks like they have checked out effort wise.
