OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

I think we should be trading Dick while he still has some prospect stink on him, but he is still pretty cheap and really next year is the year to make a decision on him. He needs an amazing summer this year.

Walter has some tools in there, but he is rail thin and pretty young. He too needs a good summer.

We can afford to be patient through through next season imo. Next year is a huge evaluation year about where the organization needs to go over the following 5 years and Gravy is under control and cheap for a few more years so I'm not too worried there given that he just turned 21. Lots of runway with him. Worst case scenario imo is if he doesn't take a big step next year, we can package him with one of RJ or IQ (again, next year is important to figure out what is worth keeping) for an upgrade.

My biggest concern this summer is making sure that veteran out = veteran in. I agree with Zeke that moving Bruce & Boucher is the best way to go. But we can't replace them with kids who aren't ready and let a shitty bench tank this core (we did that already with FVV-Pascal-OG...let's learn from that pls).

Whether it's taking on salaried veterans in trade at this deadline in our trades, or hitting up the market for a couple of good veteran bodies, I don't care. But if we're running an Ochai-Jakobe-Shead bench or some shit next year and we're a 30 win team again, fire everyone.

Starting to really round the corner into the back stretch of silly season in the NBA, I'll start doing some rumour/news updates:

- Chicago has jumped into the Jimmy Butler sweepstakes as a possible landing spot for Beal so Jimmy can land in Phoenix. In theory Lavine would go to Miami in that type of move. Imo, if I'm Miami I'm all over that. Lavine isn't nearly as toxic an asset now that he's 1) healthy 2) playing well 3) has 1.5 years left on that deal now. He's a hard working dude, he would fit in well with Heat Culture.

- Anthony Davis keeps petitioning the front office to add a traditional centre, but they apparently keep telling him no. Vucevic and Poeltl are the two that have been mentioned in LAL as desired options.

- Walker Kessler is somehow considered to be off limits in trade talks by Utah....

- Toronto, Washington, Charlotte, and Detroit are the 4 teams who have offered to take money in a Jimmy Butler deal. With that many willing though, I don't like the chance of getting anything good as the facilitator and would probably prefer to just stay out and do our own thing. It's one thing to jump into this and end up getting a decent player or two and 1st. Another entire to end up taking Pat Connaughton and getting a couple 50th overall picks for your troubles. I'd rather we just make our own mistakes in free agency with that money.

Apparently he found out he was being brought off of the bench and lost his shit.

Jimmy Butler walked out of Heat shootaround this morning after being informed the team is planning not to start him — with Haywood Highsmith starting — moving forward, sources tell ESPN.

I think Jimmy got played by Pat here tbh. Pat doesn't want Jimmy with the team, fucking with their energy and tanking his trade value even further. So get Jimmy to keep doing shit that they can contractually punish him for and then they get to sit him out and not pay him.

Kind of played like shit, Scottie & RJ combined for 14/39 overall, 2/11 from outside. Winning by 12 with 1 minute left.

6 wins in their last 7, just passed Brooklyn to move into 12th in the East.
