OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

Slots in well as the 3rd best player on the team.

Yup. He's just expensive for that, which is fine as long as you have your #1-2 set already.

The problem is filling in that expensive #3 role without having the #1 guy. Gets really fucking hard to make the money work when you do it backwards like that.

I mean, the main reason the Knicks were even able to make this work is that Brunson took less on his current deal. Had he not they probably would have sold off part of the core last year after the loss to the Pacers.

Because we didn't have a Brunson and we saw what happened when we played these guys together without a Batman, it wasn't good.

This is the same as the Siakam conversations from last year. We didn't have a Haliburton to get Pascal to the ECF and finals. When Pascal was relied upon to be our #1, we were out in the 1st round. OG is awesome but the Knicks can let him just be a guy in their system. When we needed him to be a #2, we were out in the 1st round.

It was never that they aren't good players.
I mean, if just one of OG or Siakam was still on the team, where would we have ended up in these playoffs? Definitely past the Cavs. After that?

But we lost in the 1st round when we had both of them playing big roles. Why would we win in the 1st round for sure now?

The Knicks are built kind of perfectly to let OG be OG. He's not usually a guy you can rely on as a #1-2 scorer. He just happens to be exploding at the right time. But usually he gets to sit back and be a 3rd-4th option defensive wing that stands in the corner and hits open shots. That's a role he wasn't willing to accept here.
