is any stat truly individual?

these ones try different ways to isolate individual performance as much as possible, but it's hard.

Are these stats truly individual or based on team play

Yes

For example Dick is -2.1 BPM , is that based on more Dick having issues or teammates missing shots , layups , or poor D

Also yes.

Dick is a bad defender. But in the Raptors bad defence the metrics think he's so bad defensively that he barely belongs in the league and that's probably not true. He's one of the reasons the defence is bad though, so there's also that.

note that all of those advanced metrics other than BPM regress multi-year data and Dick's metrics last year were way way worse (like around where Walter/Shead are) so that's likely holding down his numbers a bit. and those are 19yr old rookie numbers so i don't know how much they should be held against him.

A bit, yeah. EPM hates him defensively, and has him worse now (2nd percentile) than they did at the end of last year (3rd percentile). But even his BPM is only a bit better than last year but still in the bottom ~10% of the league. It's not a real concern yet, a lot of recent lottery picks have similarly bad defensive metrics and the team defence around him has been trash so it's hard to know how much of his metrics are him yet but he wouldn't be the first guy who looked like he could score the ball enough to be an impact starter who was terrible defensively. Gotta see improvement there.

I would do that for a bunch of different reasons....and I expect GSW to be a top 6-8 team, and the pick to be mid 20's.

But Payton is a better point of attack defender than Brown is and does a lot of the same kind of things offensively. Might not be that hard to get him going with a bigger role here and flip him at the deadline for 2nd's, or some sort of a young project.
