OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

I can see the arguments for both sides, it’s just the group we have now isn’t that promising. Bringing in Giannis to partner with Barnes seems like you’re getting closer to a chip than going with what we have, even looking a few years down the line IMO.

this is such a role reversal from normal, where ME is the optimist

It's just understanding what a trade like that would signify. That isn't a move to win in a few years, that's a trade to win now. Giannis is 31 next season and only guaranteed for 2 more years on this current deal. If we win 47 games and get punted in the 1st round because we have a lopsided team on the court with no shooting....does he sign an extension? If he doesn't...well fuck, you have one year to go balls out but without trade assets or cap space.

We've seen some cautionary tales on that style of team building. LAC, Brooklyn, Phoenix....fuck, Milwaukee is currently a cautionary tale about this very same thing. Going and getting a star doesn't answer every problem. If Giannis was 28 and we had some runway to build around him there are very few things I wouldn't do to get him to Toronto if I were Masai. But he's 31 in December, and has already had durability issues.

Giannis managed to win a title with Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday as the #2 and #3 options. He’s a true superstar.

If anyone thinks the Raptors have the assets of the Thunder, Spurs or Rockets to get this done they are mad.

Then if you really need to factor in that we arent in a contending window yet to add a 31 year old at the cost of Scottie

Giannis gets to choose where he wants to go. His team will have to settle for the best assets they can get from that team.

Have you missed nba trades for the last decade.

I suspect he enjoyed winning a championship and would like to go to a place with that outlook.

Also Lillard didn’t get Miami

Let us know when this isn't a "he might ask for a trade" situation and turns into a "he's forcing his way specifically to the Raptors" situation.

Not wanting this as a raps fan is peak gay

If I can get Giannis for Demar Derozan and a 1st rounder, I obviously want him.

If he costs Scottie + IQ + 9th + a bag of future 1sts, I don't want him.

Multiple teams will be offering packages of value much, much closer to that latter than to the former.

Did you actually read dudes report on this thing though? He says that a source has told him Giannis is looking for 3 things, and then this guy theory crafts the Raptors and Nets as fitting those things.

This is just a guy milking the Rich Paul comment from yesterday on the Pat McAfee show:

“You look at Toronto, who have young assets, a big market. He would be huge there”

So yeah, let me know when Giannis is forcing his way here and we're getting to make a deal that doesn't blow out the back of the entire organization to put him in a Raptors jersey. I would fucking love that, let's go. It's just super unlikely. Until these "3 things" this guy is claiming to have been told are priorities, all I've heard from bigger media idiots is to expect Giannis to put winning ahead of every other priority.
