Bored, could do some work but meh...here's how the east looks imo now that most of the big moves appear to be over and done with.
1) Cleveand: Spider, Mobley, Allen, Garland, Ball, Hunter, Strus, Merrill
- Might be fatally flawed in a playoff series against a good team, hard to say. Will still be the class of the east in the regular season though.
2) Orlando: Wagner, Banchero, Bane, Suggs, Wendell Jr, Isaac, Goga, Black
- Bane is a huge upgrade on KCP and probably gives them the scoring punch they've been missing. Banchero is still ineffiecent but versatile and good. Wagner might be a star though. Just being healthy and better offensively puts them in the running to win the weak ass east
3) Knicks: Brunson, Towns, OG, Bridges, Hart, Robinson, McBride, Yabusele, Clarkson
- I'm bullish on Brown taking this group over and unlocking better offensive ball movement which will raise their ceiling imo. Just giving the bench a real role is a step forward to being better. Thibs is an elite floor raiser, but a ceiling limiter.
4) Bucks: Giannis, Turner, Portis, Kuzma, KPJ, Trent, stuff
- Oof...what a shit supporting cast for an elite player to have. I think this is a retool year largely for them, but a healthy Giannis means you're flirting with 50 wins.
5) Pistons: Cade, Ausar, Duren, Ivey, Levert, Stewart, Robinson, Tobias, Holland
- The surprise team of last year. I'm not sold on them being good though I'm sold on them not being bad which I think is enough to compete for a playoff spot
6) Heat: Bam, Herro, Norm, Wiggins, Davion, Jovic, Ware, JJJ, Haysmith
- No more Jimmy drama and turning Jimmy's cap hit into Norm, Wiggins, and Dion isn't bad work. I'm pretty bullish on Ware and Jovic as good rotation players now as well. I don't see a high ceiling here, but last year was a disaster and they only finished a few games out of 7th.
7) Raptors: Scottie, BI, Jake, IQ, RJ, Walter, Okai, CMB, Sandro, Dick
- Even if the collection of talent turns out to be a bad fit, as long the the 2nd half D was real, they'll win more games than they lose. Last year was a train wreck on multiple fronts with a lack of depth leading to fucking catastrophe every time a decent starter was out for a while. Should be able to weather injuries much better this year. I'm bullish on Walter as a breakout candidate and bullish on their asset flexibility to make meaningful trades mid season this year to address roster weaknesses. If the group of talent turns out to mesh somehow though, I could see ~48 wins and being higher up this list.
8) Hawks: Trae, Tingus, Johnson, NAW, Risacher, Kennard, Dyson, Okongwu
- I actually like their off season a lot and figure that they're maybe 4 months from figuring out that Trae has been a part of the problem and not a solution. With that said, they were pretty good before losing Johnson for the season last year and having NAW and Dyson around will cover up a bunch of Trae's defensive issues (though won't save him from being hunted in the PR). If Tingus is healthy (probably no) there is some upward potential here.
9) Pacers: Siakam, Nembhard, Toppin, Nesmith, Mathurin, Walker, McConnell
- Losing Tyrese and Turner just can't be overcome. They'll probably play good team ball, but don't have the horses to compete unless Mathurin and Walker take big ass steps forward.
10) Sixers: Embiid, PG, Maxey, McCain, Edgecomb, Oubre, Drummond, Lowry
- Can't rate them until Embiid shows he's not crippled and PG shows he's not cooked.
11) Celtics: Brown, White, Pritchard, Simons, Hauser, Niang
- Stevens is no dummy. Brown is going to be "rehabbing" his knee until December and White will magically get shut down with injury at some point mid season. They were thrown a tank season and they're going to take it. Hard to rank them without knowing if they actually lean into the tank though. If they do, could drop down near the bottom here. If not, Brown and White could lead a playin chase.
12) Bulls: Vuc, Giddey, Coby, Williams, Collins, Huerter, Smith, Dosunmu, Buzelis
- Serious bounce backs by Vuc and pre trade Lavine wallpapered over how bad they are. A Vuc trade is definitely coming though and the bottom will fall out. A better and more cohesive group than the tank teams, but still nowhere near good.
13) Charlotte: Ball, Bridges, Sexton, Kneuppel, Green, Williams
- What happens when you play small ball but fuck everything about defence at the same time? We're going to find out. Can probably score enough to win 25 games 125-120 though.
14) Wizards: Middleton, McCollum, Smart, Sarr, Johnson, Coulibaly, Carrington, Whitmore
- The Wizards are....competent? Not on the floor, lol no. This is still terrible. But they're making moves that make sense? Good veterans who can still play to mentor the kids, no more Poole Party and Kuzma ensuring that the kids never develop properly. Squint and you can see the beginnings of an actual talented core to build around.
15) Brooklyn: MPJ, Claxton, Thomas, Mann, Sharpe, bag of kids
- I fully expect MPJ to get shut down by Christmas and the tank to be in absolute full effect.
