hey I shit on this FO more than anyone but for once they went for the one high upside target they liked instead of the bucket of slop, so i'll praise the shit out of them for that.

and I'm more than comfortable with my appreciation of the odds and chances of him succeeding or not.

Wow, that's pretty interesting. Both guys have intriguing upside, Gallen looking good this year and Jazz not so much with a terrible start to the season. Miami has a lot of young pitching and questionable bats so this does make sense for both sides.

The Athletics have struck a deal to acquire righty Tanner Roark plus cash from the Reds, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (Twitter link). Outfielder Jameson Hannah is headed to Cincinnati in return, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network (Twitter link). Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle notes that the Reds will pick up $2.1MM of Roark’s remaining salary, which looks to be a bit more than $3MM.

The Washington Nationals bolstered their bullpen prior to the trade deadline Wednesday, acquiring right-hander Daniel Hudson from the Toronto Blue Jays and Roenis Elias and Hunter Strickland from the Seattle Mariners, sources confirmed to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Toronto gets right-handed pitching prospect Kyle Johnston from the Nationals. He is 9-9 with a 4.03 ERA in 20 starts at the Class A level this season. TSN first reported the trade.

The Mariners reportedly receive three pitching prospects from the Natioanls -- RHP Elvis Alvarado, LHP Taylor Guilbeau and LHP Aaron Fletcher -- in exchange for Elias and Strickland. That deal was first reported by MLB.com.

I’m happy they got a guy like this for once as well. I’m dismayed (but not the least bit surprised) that their asset valuation is, once again, wildly off the mark. If Kay and SWR are all you can get for Stroman, you keep Stroman. Also, based on their history, and everything else they’ve done since, I wouldn’t be surprised if they think Kay is the real prize here.

As for success rates of this type of prospect, you just said: “second thing you notice is that the success rate for guys who come anywhere remotely close to that kind of performance is almost 100%.”

I personally wouldn’t be comfortable with that kind of expectation for any prospect, never mind one with as many question marks as SWR.

But fair enough.
