heh. go watch shakins talk in public ever, and you should have your answer on this one.Jmho ....
I dont understand why the Jay's dont go after top tier pitching.
If you dont want to trade one of your top prospects, then the only other commodity the Jay's have to use is money.
Take a page from the Braves of the past.
Go after the 2 top pitching FA's.
Let Pearson and manoah slide in to the 3rd and 4th spots on the team over the next 2 or 3 years.
You have 2, top starting pitcher positions covered for the next 7 years and much more after the kids take their places on this team.
The kids, (pearson and manoah) will move up as they gain more experience.
Having two top pitchers will only help create a winning environment and help to teach the kids in the field to play up instead of treading.
Pitching usually trumps offence in the playoffs.
But ..... will the Jay's pay a couple of hundred million to go this route?
As I mentioned .... jmho.
Wheeler, 29, has received at least one $100 million offer and will land a five-year deal in excess of that amount, according to major-league sources.
The White Sox, Twins, Reds, Rangers and Blue Jays are among the clubs pursuing Wheeler, who is the leading free-agent alternative to fellow right-handers Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg even though his career ERA+ (ERA adjusted to park and league) is exactly league average.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Blue Jays are interested in veteran free agent starting pitchers Dallas Keuchel and Hyun-Jin Ryu. Morosi spoke about the Blue Jays’ pitching options on MLB Network’s Hot Stove Live.
“The Jays are getting a head start on the shopping for next year,” Morosi said. “Two names to mention here: Hyun-Jin Ryu and Dallas Keuchel.”
“It makes a lot of sense for the Jays to court both Keuchel and Ryu now,” Morosi said. “I’m told they’re both on their list … the Jays are generally very interested in finding some different veteran starting pitching and these are two names I’m told are on their list.”
I could see that. Boring signing that will certainly get eaten up on this board. Its gonna be Roark. Spin Rate
The Jays are aggressively mediocre.
Yeah, this. It's why I want Wheeler, a higher upside guy who can be an important piece over the next few years, but the bidding is getting out of control for someone with his injury history.I mean, the team is still shit this year no matter what, so honestly whether they sign someone or not it really doesn't matter to me. Yeah, it would be nice to be a little like the White Sox or Padres and actually start investing in free agents before you're fully challenging for a playoff spot, but none of the names we're linked really thrill me. More important is seeing how the team does next year, and how all the kids progress. Would be awesome if we trusted management to go out and find us a great FA arm, but I can at least take a glimmer of hope in that we didn't immediately reject the notion of signing any free agents. I guess?
