Im willing to buy Rogers was super serious about Ohtani, for off the field reasons.

Soto feels more like a Hey Look were trying, watch us offer 700M while NYM go 760, kind of shit, and back into the super special budget thing so they dont need to sign anyone good after they "fail".

From Boras perspective, sure, have another " big market" to use to bid up Cohen another 40M if the Yankees gain some sensibility.

Im still betting they are trying to thread the needle of competing ( on their terms) while having no excess money on the books than necessary and are holding off extension talks because they rather trade him to help kickstart a rebuild ( which should probably happen, but with Vlad, and yanno, a non cunt FO)

We all knew this team was doomed as soon as they hired Shapiro, AA left and Ross started talking. Just a complete trainwreck but at least we can all spend our time doing other stuff now and I certainly won’t be spending $200 to watch a below 80 win, risk adverse team

Okay, and a zillion years since the last World Series appearance should inform their opinion of themselves at some point. You’d think they’d also want a solid scapegoat to publicly hang in order to exonerate themselves from all blame for the shit results, but they don’t want to execute these useless fucks no matter how long they fail.

It sucks when it’s blatantly obvious from the first minute and then you just have to live out the years of shit until they finally pull the plug on these losers.
 
What I still don't get, you can argue to keep Shapiro around because cupholders and whatever, but can he not find someone else who he can trust to do his every bidding as GM? He could have fired Atkins sometime in the last couple years, brought in some fresh blood who can parrot useless talking points, and at least that would buy him a little bit of "change". I don't see why Atkins has to stick around at all.
