With our lack of pop, can we afford to not give this dude a look soon? He's a 1B/3B in the minors, could obviously DH as well...and can he be worse than Pinango in LF?
Pinango's been hitting pretty well himself. As for Keys' defense, I've heard him referred to as a 1B / DH type in the long run, 3B is probably a pipe dream and we already have Oak there everyday anyways, so can he be worse than Pinango in LF? Don't know for sure, but since he's not expected to provide much defensive value, I'd say yes, yes he can.

Seems like a trade chip to me if we're in it at the deadline.

The profile between he and Pinango is way different through. Pinango turned into a bat to Ball line drive hitter without much plate patience. He can hit but there's not a ton of upside there that we haven't seen. keys is starting to look like an elite power prospect, a middle of the lineup hitter with elite strike zone judgement and elite power. You don't trade that to hang on to our slap hitter brigade. Even if he's just a DH going forward.

sure but obviously we have Okamoto and Vladdy manning 3rd and 1st base. Yes Keys can be a Springer-replacement at DH next year (and provide help this year too, in theory, though prospects often struggle when they first get to the bigs, esp. non elite ones) but finding a 2027 DH is fairly low on the priority list right now, and the easiest position to fill obviously. I'm not one of those guys who wants to trade all prospects, just that in the right deadline deal he makes a lot of sense.

Oh, I'm definitely a trade the prospects guy, but as a general rule you trade the over hyped lower minors guys in your top 10 and keep the weirdo breakout guys on the cusp of making the show that came from deeper in your system.
