OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Of course you can't believe everything you read, but it has been suggested the Jays had to tack on an extra year for Ryu, and apparently Mets final offer for Springer was 5/125. Jays had to ... tack on another year, and he eventually signed for 6/150.

But of course, our GM's are idiots, Forum Ice will eventually replace Mensa as a home for the world's geniuses, and we are all ashamed at seeing these hundreds of trades go through where all teams with a chance to win have been trading all their prospects.

That's the trouble with not being consistently good.

Lol...weird way to say "not in the U.S"

Yeah, I mean, there's always going to be issues when you are the only non-US entity. I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost Springer 20M to hire an accountant who can make sure he doesn't pay more taxes for us than he would if he signed for a random US team. And it is annoying that by market size and really any discernable metric, the Jays should be up there with anybody not called Dodgers or Yankees (our TV ratings are hands-down better than any other team, our owners are technically richer than any other owners, etc...).

But c'est la vie.

It's definitely a disadvantage that means we will miss out on some guys, and have to overpay others.

And with Ryu, who knows, he's from Korea and may not have cared. I think there were several teams involved in negotiations, so if they all offered 2-3 year deals due to his age, the Jays sealed the deal by adding the extra year which is something that does happen to other teams as well.

So the next 15 games are against the Yankees, Orioles, Marlins, and Mariners. Good opportunity to get in some dubs and get closer to a playoff spot.

I'm sorry, are you actually trying to say the Jays have not routinely paid more, and longer, for FA's?

....and you're pulling the sarcasm angle?

anytime mlbjb in on your side you may want to rethink your position.
(sorry maple...but you are king of over reactions)
pretty much every UFA contract is an overpay. that's how the UFA market works. the suggestion was that the Jays have trouble signing free agents - recent history contradicts that point.

and the bigger point is that the Jays are a big market team that acts like a small market team and have conned their fans into thinking that it is true and/or okay.

is your point that most free agents will sign for the most money? because then we agree.

Yeah, we act like we're Cleveland or KC. We should act like we're Boston or St Louis.

Bo isn't technically inherited, but it was AA's staff who picked him.
Most of the roster was inherited/picked by AA's staff (Vlad, Bo, Cavan, Jansen, Tellez, Bourucki, Romano --- they fired AA's dir of scouting a month after he drafted Bo etc.), trades (Hernandez, Matz, Ray, Grichuk) and Free Agents (Ryu, Semien and Springer).

Outside of Manoah and perhaps Gurriel I can't think of many core pieces that were picked and developed by Shapiro.

FYI - Many of trades and FA signings that remain on the current roster have obv been good. But let's not forget the Morales', Garcia's, Anderson's and Roark's of the world. Also, I assume we all somewhat dislike Grichuk again by Sept.

Without Vlad this year we are probably 7 or 8 games under .500.

From what I understand, this was a follow-up to an initial positive/inconclusive test. Apparently he's asymptomatic but out for 10 days now.

If you're serious about winning flip Bo and Semien. Put the best team on the field.

I'd prefer that as well given that Bo has been a bit below average defensively this year but our seriousness towards winning is entirely on future investments into the pitching staff. It's bad and probably going to get worse as the season goes on.

Ridiculously good, of course, but let's see where he is at the end of the year. Delgado in 2000 and Olerud in 1993 both had stretches that were longer and even better than what Vlad has done so far. Still, of course, he is insanely good.
