OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

He needs a break. Maybe some time in the bullpen pitching in low pressure situations.

But what next? Tiedemann is hurt. AAA rotation is also in shambles at the moment. Maybe Bowden Francis.

Ryan Dempster on OneDrive made a pretty convincing case that fatigue must be the main reason for Alek's troubles. He pointed out how few innings he's historically pitched in years past and how he suddenly increased innings pitched the past two seasons.

He didn't mention the pitch clock but that must be playing a factor here too.

Sending him down or giving him low pressure innings doesn't really help. He thought Alek should sit for a couple of weeks while working on conditioning.

It seems weird that it would be basically right from the start of the season though that it hits.

I think regardless, he needs a little time in the minors to shake things out. Give him a couple low pressure starts at AAA, and he can rejoin the rotation in late June. No point to keep on throwing him out for more starts like yesterday's - it doesn't do anyone any good, him or the team, until he can sort through things.

what does this mean in reality?
probably similar to the halladay move, rather than just send him to AAA I'd imagine it'll be a more stress-free environment where they can watch video and work on his mechanics while also giving him a mental break. Once they have something tangible to work on, he can go on a rehab assignment and appear in some minor league games before returning to TO.

Also former Jays super-prospect Austin Martin is about to start his rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League. He’ll probably take Manoah deep a whole bunch of times, and be tearing up the majors by the all star break.
