OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Yeah, not only this but if you try to force him over to 2nd he may get real pissy about it. Any attempt to re-sign Bo Bichette with the idea of moving him to second base has to be done with his consent upfront. And I can see why he wouldn't want to do it since he's still only 26 years old.

Want to be clear, I do like Bo and am 90% certain he bounces back in a big way this year. Which is why the Jays are correct to say he's available, but not at a huge discount. So I wouldn't be looking to run him out of town.

But if we get a good offer, I would listen, especially if his salary demands are unrealistic. Again, this is not a profile that generally ages well after 30. So a 4-5 year deal to play 2nd would be great, but he may be be asking for 8 and SS, at which point that money is probably better spent elsewhere. And if he's traded, Gimenez can play SS and probably do it better.

Likely the biggest reason he wanted to stay at shorty was to get paid like one. Pay him the extra couple of million premium as a shorty and he's probably good with it. Those are "likely"s and "probably"s of course, but I wouldn't want to get moved off of my natural, premium position until I got paid like one either.

Goldschmidt is 37 years old. Had an off year in '24, though he was better in the 2nd half. Steamer projects him to be decent-good in 2025.

It's a roll of the dice, I think it's a good signing but obviously nothing is guaranteed at that age and it definitely could go either way.

7/150 would have covered his last 3 years too. Taking the salaries he earned, plus say 28m for this year, would be about 70m over those 4 yeses, buying out 3 FA years for 80m. It's not wholly unreasonable, assuming that was like an early offer. Maybe they could have settled for like 7/160 or 7/175 would be more like 30-35m for his free agent years.

Dunno what value he might consider.... but yeah, I'm guessing he's gone if the aim if like 450 or 500 or something crazy like that.

It wasn't unreasonable, but it also wasn't a signal from the front office that they wanted him to be here his entire career, saw him as a centrepiece of the franchise, etc. The only year his arby award wasn't within screaming distance of that guaranteed 21 million was the first year. You're asking a kid coming off of a MVP calibre season as a 22 yr old to give up 3 years of free agent money to do what? Take a bit more over the first 4 years and then way less over the final 3?

It's not insulting, but it's not the type of offer you make if you're really trying to get him signed either.
