OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

They really need another starting pitcher and a legit outfield bat.
I think the idea they NEED a SP is a fallacy.

Could they use a legitimate upgrade in the rotation? yes, of course, but do they need more of the same? i don't really think so.

I get that you want insurance in case Max dies, Lauer pumpkins, or Manoah stalls out/dies/sucks, but at this current juncture, the starting 5 is healthy and unless you are planning to go to a 6 man rotation, who are you moving to the pen? who are you sending down? Lauer has earned the right to keep pitching. I certainly dont like the idea of paying a massive price for a guy like Keller, who is not an upgrade, but will be expensive cause he's locked in on a good deal. I dont really see a space for a Kelly/Morton/Gallen either, but at least they are rentals and at least in theory represent an actual upgrade.

If we are in the SP market, i want it to be the tippy top of it be it Degrom, Alcantara, Cabrera, Eovaldi, Ryan, or Gray.

That said, RP, especially a top one, be it Duran, Clase, Jax, Smith, Bednar or Helsley should be the top priority. Pay what it takes, Yimi is probably dead, maybe get two.

For a bat, i thought they needed one before Santander news came out, now, they do for sure. I think it can be a RHH that plays 3B or OF, and shift Barger/Clement accordingly. Suarez/Ward/Robert make sense as everyday options, and Laureano/Bader/Refsnyder make sense as Straw upgrades. I also wonder, if they make a call on Steven Kwan, he is a LHH, but fuck me, he seems like a guy these guys will fuck through a wall for.

RP would be my number 1 as well. Like top swing and miss dawgs like Duran, Clase, Miller and the others you mentioned. SP if you can’t get any needle moving RP. Bat wise, they probably go bench if anything at all but if they can keep this division lead another week, week and a half, they may have no choice but to really go for it

If they dont want to get an everyday bat or Santander replacement ( gotta think he might be toast for the year) i wont agree with it, but i can buy that they really like Lukes ( vs RHP), Davis ( vs LHP) and Ernie ( should only really be LHP) and that Barger is an everyday guy, but IMO you have to at minimum upgrade on Straw with an actual LHP masher off the bench, especially with Davis turning into a pumpkin a real possibility.

Shatkins can’t be that stupid to let this opportunity pass and not really go for it. The fans already don’t like them and it would piss them off but also, really disappoint the team that’s worked so hard to get to this point

I mean they have made moves to go for it every year they have been in it, and i would suggest the average fan has changed their tune on these guys at least for now.

Traditionally they have not been in on the top of the RP market, but they signed Hoffman, traded for and signed Yimi, so i suspect they are at least calling on Clase/Duran/etc. If the cost requires Yesavage/Nimmala do i think they do it? probably not, i dont know if our secondary pieces are there yet to outbid LAD etc, but i think they will get RP arms of some high leverage sorts.

Yup, they’ll need some sort of bat. Really feels like they may swing for Kwan. That’s a Shatkins move and might be nice depending on the price and maybe get a reliever as well
