OT: What are you Watching/Listening/Drinking?

P.s. reaction videos are the best thing on the internet. Black kids love sebastian. And Rage. And zep. And Floyd.

Yeah, they're the best. Zeke actually posted a few of their Rush reactions a few years ago and got me hooked on reaction videos.

I like these guys too.

Love Lex. I've actually just watched a few of them this morning. She was all overMaster of Puppets from the first note.

Yeah she's trip. They're a great mix cause they're almost complete opposites in what they listen for and appreciate about music.

People can't get enough of the old stuff....good read on pop culture trends. Is our culture stagnating?

The latest report shows that the consumption of old music grew another 14% during the first half of 2022, while demand for new music declined an additional 1.4%. These old tunes now represent a staggering 72% of the market.

A combination of things there i think. Pop music very rarely stands the test of time and corporate music entities only make anything that isn't meant to be pop by accident now.

Great music, regardless of the genre is timeless and when you have decades of it to listen to. Basically an endless amount of it regardless of genre, why would you listen to garbage just because its new?

Something that I've hoped streaming eventually did to the music industry was show how much appetite there was for better music, and how little appetite there actually is for generic pop music. When labels stop looking at a song/album as a short term asset that only makes money from the current 14-24 yr old demo for a few months, and start looking at it as a long term piece of IP that can generate revenue for decades, they'll start to prioritize finding and nurturing talent capable of spanning generations rather than trend riding.

I really try not to be one of those "old heads" when it comes to hip hop, but I honestly can't remember the last time a new artist got added to my playlists in any serious way. I actively try to give new shit a chance but it's a struggle.

The first generation of timeless pop song writers is quickly dying out. Im interested to see how the world reacts to that - with digitization and streaming we aren’t really losing the Beatles, stones, zep, floyd and so on, and there are generations to come who will get to experience this stuff for the first time.

Yeah, when I was a teenager in the early 90s... Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, STP, The Hip (Canada eh) and a few others were big... and they of course stood the test of time. However, a lot of us were learning about, and loving Pink Floyd, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, The Beatles, CCR and a bunch more legendary music. Nice to see the kids discovering all these classics now... plus the stuff that was new when I was a kid.

Also, the way we consume is different. We can’t watch Beethoven play his ninth or Mozart play eine Kleinr nachtmusik. But I literally saw John Lennon perform with Paul McCartney live a month ago.
