OT: What are you Watching/Listening/Drinking?

Meh, there has to be a bunch of recognizable tunes that we still hear from centuries ago that were the only known song from that artist.

I honestly can't remember the last time a new artist got added to my playlists in any serious way. I actively try to give new shit a chance but it's a struggle.

That's also how I feel about movies....yeah, today's CGI enhanced set pieces make for good eye candy but I am tired of the endless remixes of GOOD vs EVIL punctuated with the latest OMG action stunts.

Until recording became a thing technically, the only way we would know is by it's sheet music (which is why early classical survived). The first sound recording wasn't until the mid 1800's.

I'm sure there are some folk songs that got handed down that made it to the recording era, but it's unlikely that they got handed down in anything resembling their original form.

To be faiiir, I think the purpose of movies as a story telling medium has changed drastically since then. Honestly, 90-120 film is a pretty shit method of storytelling (the book is better!!!!!) but it was the medium forced upon culture due to social and technological limitations. Our best story telling has migrated to the multi season 1 hr format (which allows so much more time to flesh out characters and plot) and movies have largely become the evolution of the 30 minute action hero serials & cartoons from the 60-70-80's. Marvel movies didn't replace Citizen Kane, they replaced Knight Rider, Magnum P.I & Pro Stars. The Wire replaced Citizen Kane.

I get that....but I still love immersing myself in a 100 minute universe (that's slightly thought provoking) and getting the fuck out of there.

For example, I don't want to spend 48 hours (and 4 seasons) with the Adam Sandler character in Uncut Gems...but the movie is brilliant.

The same with Fargo, Matrix 1, Inglorious Bastards, Memoria, Another Round etc

Speaking of gateway drugs...I noticed my niece's playlist was fairly close to something I'd be okay with so I knew she had discovered pot at least.

IMNSHO, kids listening to Sabbath and Zeppelin and Floyd have probably discovered the joys of marijuana.

This is a captivating performance, and it's over 5 years old....they just get better.

If you have youtube without ads and like Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Grateful Dead Deep Purple good music in general you owe it to yourself to take 50 minutes off of life and just enjoy.
