OT: World Politics

It has been said that population decline and slowing economic growth will reduce their ability to use soft power ($$$) to conduct foreign policy. The alternative is… violence.

Sound familiar?

No surprise. Turkey is a fascist dictatorship now.

Yeah, if they weren’t before, Erdogan crushed all remaining significant dissent in the aftermath of that phony staged “coup” against him a few years back.

And they’re not only a fascist dictatorship, but increasingly a socially conservative religious one as well.

Ataturk must be spinning in his grave.

If a leader continually attempts to re-write the constitution to keep himself in power indefinitely, that's a fascist.
Wehave sees fascists under his bed at night. He thought Kenney was a fascist, Poilievre is a fascist, truck freedom protesters fascists, DeSantis a fascist, Johnson a fascists etc You get the picture. . Given he calls everyone a fascist if he doesn't agree with them politically, his calling someone a fascist is rendered meaningless.

Edrogan might very well be, and he probably fits the definition of one.

most of which is not relevant to the issue of whether Erdogan is in fact a fascist. which you seem to accept. glad we got there in the end.

also, DeSantis has extreme fascist tendencies. this is the state banning books en masse, for starters.

When has "relevance" mattered on a webboard? Whether Edrogan, Orban, Bolsonaro or any others are fascists or not, it is a label, and is pretty much meaningless overall. Antifa are bigger fascists than many of the fascists they go after. The biggest fascist in the entire world is Xi and he is admired by our own PM for getting things done. I wish the world was as black and white as many see it.

The irony of Wehave's position is that he was prepared to go total fascist in how he wanted to treat the unvaxed, the unmasked etc. He supported complete lockdowns like China's draconian actions, and wanted to throw our unvaxed brothers/sisters in concentration camps. As a result, his slacktivist attacks on "fascists" rings hollow.

well, we clearly lost you, apparently a while ago. but I will indulge in any event.

1) fascism is not simply a meaningless label. it is an ideology, that when allowed to flourish leads to all sort of terrible things. if you don't believe me, I have some history books I can direct you to.

2) please provide evidence in support of your preposterous suggestion that "Antifa are bigger fascists than many of the fascists they go after"

3) I don't think you're accurately characterizing our Prime Minister's perspective on China and specifically Xi

4) I'll let wehave speak to and defend his own positions, he is more than capable

I am well aware of fascism in the past and the ones the left calls fascists are not those people, but you knew that. Do you honestly think Donnie who was a goof and all, was going to declare himself perpetual dictator?

You did not lose me, I only started to see the hypocrisy from the left over the last few years. I still voted for Trudeau in 2021 despite his many flaws. The centre moved away from me, not me from the centre.

As for Justin and Xi, he did say a number of years ago he admired China's dictatorship. Was it a freudian slip or a misspeak, only Justin really knows but he did say he admired China. He also has been less than forceful re the Urghurs than one would expect. That does beg the question as to why.
