OT: World Politics

Yes.

Only an idiot would claim that anything Russia is doing in Ukraine is "more humane" than anything done by the US in Iraq. The fact of the matter is that Chomsky wasn't in either place and war generally isn't a humane undertaking. But Russian barbarity has been shown and exposed time and again. And just like in Iraq the bad guys have resorted to beheading their opponents so Chomsky needs to sit this one out.

There are no "both sides" to this conflict. Russia is an evil fascist aggressor that needs to be evicted from the Ukraine by force, full stop. Ukraine didn't ask to be invaded and they have an absolute right to defend their territory by whatever means necessary.

If only the world was as manichean as you see it, I truly wish it were but sadly it isn't, there are many shades of gray.

As you have stated on many occasions re other wars, might makes right. If Ukraine's offensive is successful and drives the Russian bear out of the annexed territories, then they will be proven right. If they can't do it, they will have to sue for peace and accept the objective truth that the annexed territories are gone for the foreseeable future.

In terms of war crimes, you know as well as I do, it is only a war crime if you lose. No winning leader of a winning country has ever been prosecuted for a war crime. No one was prosecuted for Hamburg, Dresden, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Hanoi etc. I am willing to accept your premise above but in the end, it is just an exercise in futility to argue about it because Vlad is never going to leave Russia and be arrested.

Leaving aside the fact that Putin likely doesn't live in the Kremlin, and that the building itself is so massive that your chances of hitting the exact spot where Putin happens to be in that moment are less than 1%, I'm going to say that this is another ham-handed Russian false flag operation that only a child could believe. It's more likely that the call came from inside the house, so to speak. So either it was a coup attempt or, more likely, a Gulf of Tonkin Incident/Reichstag fire staged to serve as a pretext for carpet bombing Kiev and trying to assassinate Zelenskiy.

who knows who did it, but kudos to them. wouldn't surprise me if this is all part of an internal Russian power struggle.

The pessimist in me thinks it could also be an attempt by Putin to gin up patriotic fervour prior to the May 9th “Victory Day” parade.

And/or to give themselves casus belli to make renewed attempts to kill Zelensky and strike at the seat of Ukraine’s government.

yeah this is possible. I guess I just don't see them actually going after the Kremlin itself for the false flag. could be wrong though, not really many things I would put past Putin.

My bet would be the Russians targeting a civilian target if it was a false flag.
