Eh i'm not 100% with you there. Marshalling universal support for Ukraine and ensuring that the US wasn't simply doing a proxy invasion of russia took a lot of careful diplomacy, and Ukraine had and still has plenty of issues where you can't just treat them as a full on ally and give them no strings full military support.
