This basically protects the Ukies northern flank from Russian counters and potential encirclement. The river is wide and deep enough that they would have to build a pontoon bridge to cross it. Those were the only two bridges on that section of the river.

I'm going to bet that it was something they pulled off of the shelf after the US aid package got through congress earlier this year and was probably one of the options Zaluzhny was choosing between when he went with the Zap offensive from last year that had limited success (and high costs)

He would definitely be a Prigozhin-like figure in an America where the fascists have successfully taken over.

I hope that Starlink no longer plays any kind of critical role in the AFU’s operations.
At this stage, I wouldn’t put it last Elon to use Starlink data to actively help Russian forces and pass them information.
