OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

Also built for a guy like Dana white to take advantage of how little he would need to pay fighters from around the world to compete. It’s crazy that one fc can’t figure out how to make it profitable.

Still think it’s the best that fighting has to offer up - no idea how North Americans don’t enjoy 4oz gloved Muay Thai. Even the low level fights are usually fun and action filled
I have very, very fond memories of K-1's annual Heavyweight Grand Prix.

I saw a video the other day where it was the draw for the 8 man tournament, and good fucking lord, the names involved.

(It also helps that they're all on gear and look ripped, compared to UFC heavyweights that look closer to me than they do professional athletes.)

The 4oz MT has taken over M1 as my fav to generally watch. Nice that it’s free on YouTube (live events included) here in Thailand.

Merab's a motherfucker, man. What a terrifying dude to fight against.

UFC is just beyond dumb to not have him fighting for the belt. Given the same chance as Sugar, he would prob be more loved by the ufc fans with his personality + how fucken crazy he is + how he backs it up.

Edit: By fans that will pay for ufc events - not 13 year olds that are into gaming

I think the UFC wants to get two fights of Sean O'Malley as the champ instead of just one. There's no reason Chito Vera should be getting a title shot besides his history with O'Malley, and I love watching Chito Vera fight.

Yup. ONE FC has been moving in that direction over MMA. They have way more Muay Thai fights nowadays. At this point, I'd recommend them to give up on MMA and focus on Muay Thai & kickboxing.

Speaking of Heavyweight Grand Prix... Glory is having a one night, 8 man heavyweight Grand Prix in three weeks. I don't know anyone there besides Rico Verhoeven, unfortunately. A far cry from K-1's GP with Peter Aerts, Jerome Le Banner, Semmy Schilt, Ray Sefo, Mighty Mo, Andy Hug, etc.

My landlord/owner of gym I train at is meeting with Dana in March I believe (he gave money to for her daughters cancer/procedures back in the day) - keep telling her to sell him on the 4oz MT over powerslap bullshit. For 10k/year - you could get a fight of a month from these Asian fighters. Could be a Friday event to put on ufc fight pass or whatever to go along with his china ufc institute mma fighters.

Enough English speakers between euros and Australians doing this too

The reason the UFC won't get into kickboxing, short of every other organization going belly up, is because they're not able to control the market.

The UFC isn't the best organization because they pay the most or that they're the best promoters, it's because of the restrictions they have on the fighters under their thumb. It's why they haven't jumped into boxing and why they jumped into PowerSlap.

But good lord, a high caliber kickboxing card in the morning or afternoon, then a UFC card at night? Shit, I'd be thrilled.

Don’t think it would cost a lot to lock in the market on the top 90 of 100 fighters as they are paid peanuts for the most part. These guys would sign on and be thrilled for $20k/year for the most part and one fc wouldn’t be able to match it.

EDIT: fuck Dana could put them 10 to a room in a house in Vegas and they’d fight for free. They don’t get paid well at all by one fc unless a champ in Muay Thai. And it’s not even that well compared to a top 30 ufc fighter

I think Max is going to be on the shelf for a long time after his fight against Gaethje.

Topuria - Yair Rodrigues.

They have a rivalry and an all Spanish main event? I'm down.

I wanted that as fight #2 in the dome in September - two Latin based fighters for that night seems appropriate

Yair's fighting next week against Brian Ortega. I think he wins that fight.

To me, that fight fits like a glove.

One of the best things about Ilia winning is all the fresh matchups now. Yair, Max, Ortega, Sterling, Movsar Evloev, Arnold Allen...

The king is dead, long live the king.

Fake king - he def didn’t win the 2nd max fight - first one was iffy too. I think max could end up the goat of the division if he takes out the 🇪🇸 and goes on a run of his own including revenge against Volk. Still had 2-3 years left of his prime to add to the pre-Volk work as champ and beating a lot of the challengers already as the #1 contender

Fake king? What? Even if Volk should have arguably lost the second fight, don't act like Volk didn't beat the crap out of Max in the third fight.

Neither Volk or Max have a real argument to be the best 145er ever. Jose Aldo was on top for much longer than either one of them.
