Out of Town Scoreboard

No he didn't.

Goalies are always finding themselves sliding outside of the crease during the course of play. You know this. I know this. Everyone knows this.

his entire body was outside the post when contact was made, both pads clearly on white ice.

He slid over to block a shot. But his left foot was actually still touching blue paint when Kadri made contact.

Incorrect

This line of thought you have on Backstrom is embarrassing. There was nothing out of the ordinary in how Backstrom played that.

Kadri had no reason to expect Backstrom to be where he was, absolutely none.

Wholly dishonest.

One goalie is on his knees and at the end of the crease without the puck. Gets blown up.

Miller was skating with the puck like a player.

Skating with the puck like a player? And you're going to say I'm being wholly dishonest? Ryan very clearly beats Lucic to the puck, and fires the puck into the corner (not at all "skating with it like a player" you dishonest twat). Lucic, clearly losing the foot race makes absolutely no attempt to not level the goalie, and unlike Kadri, Lucic had the benefit of seeing Ryan Miller the whole way. Kadri was following a puck to the net, actually made contact with the puck on the way to the net and made contact with a goalie who had slid 2-3 feet out of position, well outside the crease.

So we're either protecting the goalies when they're out of position or we're not. Make up your ****ing mind.

Good lord. What is wrong with you?

Miller skates way up to the circle to play the puck (and break up a potential breakaway). Lucic doesn't move from his line and hits Miller.

It's not even in the same stratosphere of a play.

I'm starting to think you don't watch hockey. Just post on this board.

Goalies are always in and around the crease during the course of play...yet they never get lit up like what Kadri did. Weird.

This league is becoming more and more gay by the year. Pretty soon they're going to outlaw all physically contact judging by the trajectory of the past three years.

Cant believe Cowen wasnt suspended for that - Datsyuk is out with a concussion as well. Bet wings fans are pissed.

I am convinced now that Shanny is in way over his head with this discipline thing.

There's obviously a bias at work. As stated, Toronto tax in our case and if you're in a smaller market or a market where Shanny played, slap on the wrist.
They need to cycle him out and put a non-player up there, someone like a former GM or even if you just keep him, apply the same consistency and punishmnets to all similar incidents. Blow to the head = X games, period.

So the whole department of player safety can be biased, but it's absolutely impossible that the refs could be.

You kids are hilarious.

Do I think there's a conspiracy to screw over the Leafs? No. Do I think there's a conspiracy to screw over the Sens? No.

But I do think certain departments can be reactionary and they can be swayed by public opinion / outrage, especially when it comes to things like suspensions.

And so can refs. It may not be predominant but they are also human and emotions come into play.

And so can refs. It may not be predominant but they are also human and emotions come into play.

But that's just a fact of a life. They are human beings. There's been study after study which outline that refs make more calls, on average, in favour of the home team than the road team.

But, unless you think games are fixed, refs don't target specific teams on purpose.

You're right. One players had clear line of site on a goalie out of position, and the other didn't. One threw a hit with intent on a goalie and the other didn't.

You're a ****ing muppet, I'm quite sure you're entirely unable to independently analyse a play. Watch the video again, and ask yourself if Backstrom overplayed the original shot. Yes, goaltenders regularly play on the white ice, but not at the sides of the crease like that. They typically keep the back of their skate on the post so they know exactly where they are...like this

and still sliding away from the net. He overplayed the shot into ice that Kadri had no expectation of him being in that particular situation (with the shot missing the net by 6 ****ing feet.
