Playoff GDT: Round 3, Game 3 Canes @ Habs 5/25 8:00

Everyone in hockey media today is saying the Canes aren't good enough to win. Ottawa sucked. Philly sucked. Montreal sucks, but should be up 3-0. Vegas is going to sweep Colorado and Carolina. The east was terrible. Carolina isn't that good.

Same guys who said Ottawa was going to sweep the Canes.

I don't watch or read that crap. Most....well all of those people are not worth my time. #Agenda

Vegas was a sub .500 team (39-43), had 4 fewer points than Ottawa, and beat 2 teams in the first 2 rounds that would not have even qualified in the East.

And are about to sweep a gutted Colorado team whose top player remaining on the ice is someone that we all know in these parts that is not up to being the top dawg of a team.

The main issue being is that none of those talking heads watch the Canes games until the playoffs.

Alas, it’s the playoffs! What a great time of year— the unsung heroes, the physicality, the wounded warriors, epic plays, coaches trying to out coach and the controversy. This year we’ve had sucker punches, spearing, missed calls and equal victimization by officiating. This has been a fun series!

FWIW, I like this bad reffing storyline better than the Williams v Koivu eye injury.

And last night when the ref called offsides on Caufield’s goal in his Québécois accent, I thought “no one will ever buy you a drink but good on you for showing your metal.”

Over under on more attempts to run Dobeš?
It was zero, for the record. And IIRC, that evens us up for the series, so … yeah. Neither team is particularly dirty, nor have there been any Tampa/Florida style assualts on the goalies, so what are we even doing here?

OK, enough with the tit for tat crap. Carolina did their normal thing and deeply tipped the shot count without cashing in, then they eventually found the winner. Everything else is sideshow stuff. Props to the Walker/Miller tandem who were just excellent last night. Props to Aho for finding his motor. Props to Svech for getting shtuff done in crunch time. Take the W and get some rest today.

The PP showed some signs of life too. Not enough to cash in, but they generated multiple chances on at least 1 PP.

Was that Wes McCauley with the sound bite at Hutson?
Not at ALL clear who’s voice that is. Some quarters of the internet seem convinced it’s a Hurricanes player, but it sounds like a ref to me … specifically McCauley. But I can’t say for sure.

I agree. It wasn’t the same confused crap they were doing in Game 2, for sure. They were sharper on the entries, got decent control and had some good looks. Ghost hits that shot he put off the post halfway solidly and nobody’s complaining. I do think it’s probably time to put Nikishin back on PP2 though, now that he finally looks like he’s knocked the cobwebs out. Game 3 was the first time he looked mostly like himself.
