PLAYOFF GDT: Series 4 / Game 2: @ Tampa Bay, Wednesday, June 30th, 8:00EST (TB Leads 1-0)

Yeah. It is a shame.

Overplaying meathead D
Not line matching
Not inserting Romanov when it's clear his agility is needed.
No adjustment whatsoever.

It's Einstein's Insanity Axiom

Sure, but they were in this game regardless. The players dropped the ball, and spectacularly so. And Suzuki has to at least get a shot on that break away.

Cooper owned him both games. If that's "great" then just fold the team.
How?

Habs had more shots, more scoring chances, more shot attempts, more high danger chances, the Tampa PP had nothing, kuch was invisible, etc.

Tampa capitalized on the rare scoring chances they had. Tampa had some zone time that generated nothing.

Most of the shots were of the stupid shot selection variety and even though I do disagree with it, stats show Tampa won HDSC. I blame Richardson for not adapting at all from game one. Not one iota. The only difference was the players actually showed up tonight.

If the Habs continue to stubbornly refuse to line match this series is done in four.

Tampa is leveraging last change very effectively. Simply put, eventually Richardson runs out of bullets.
There's been no attempt at line matching. I specifically watched for it. Whether Richardson is under orders from Bergevin to just roll the lines I do not know but whoever made that decision is making a mistake against this team.

Habs will have last change in Montreal. We will see if they put Danault out against Point. If they do and he succeeds there is no reason to not change on the fly in Tampa.

Did they play better? Sure.
Personnel decisions are on the bench and the more tired this D gets the higher the likelihood of serious brain farts.

Tampa is a team that you need to play all the pairings. That's how the Islanders pushed them to seven. Rolled all six D and hit the Tampa D every shift.

Dano did a bunch of quick changes so I think they line matched some. Though Suzuki was 4 to 2 for hd changes at even with a total of 7 to 2 in HD chances (caufield was a perfect 5 and 0). So line matching wasn't an issue tonight.

HDSC were 10 to 7 for Habs overall.

Not sure what you mean by didn't adjust? There was no need to do much adjustment within the game as the Habs controlled the play. Between games the adjustments were obvious.

Kulak and Romanov should both be playing. But those are DD decisions

I'm really hoping he sees this and inserts better skaters. I agree those two should be in however they will never sit the guy that needs to, Chiarot. It would be in place of Gustafsson and Merrill and Gus hasn't been that bad.

What I would do but they never would

Kulak-Weber
Edmundson-Romanov
Chiarot-Petry

Petry can't shoot and should not be on the PP. Chiarot needs a reduced work load.

They'll likely stay with this D or at most replace Merrill or Gus with Romanov or Kulak.

And again. Line matching wasn't an issue even though Dano was changing a lot. The point and kuch line had 1 HD chance.

Merrill serves no purpose.

If kulak is in I put him with petry.

So you think overplaying the top 4 D is the way to go? Using Danault against a checking line? Still icing for no reason?

Maybe it isn't showing up on TV but the Habs are getting outplayed away from the puck. Tampa gives you what they want to give you and the shots are usually from the outside.

I'm going to just agree to disagree. Whoever has made the decision to just roll the four lines is playing right into Cooper's hands.

Those are GM issues not coaching issues. Tampa is really good at the hockey with tons of talent at every position.

we gave them the game, that is what hurts. We proved we belonged.
