Playoffs GDT #1: MAY 20, 7:30 - Welcome to the Plains of Abraham

They’re laughing at us for playing Simmonds. The worst fucking signing ever. The main reason he was signed was for a night like last night and he didn’t even lightly bump anyone. What a fucking disgrace.

He serves a purpose 5 v 5. Just should be banished from the PP. IMO more useful than Joe. You just hate him irrationally

Almost everyone sucked on the nerdies other than the Matthews line, Rielly-Brodie with Bogosian and Spezza being good enough. It's just a one line team at the moment and it will continue to be without Tavares in the lineup I think.

T.Hall could have been a savior right now. Cheaper acquisition price and a better fit especially now that they lost an elite offensive talent.

I will say though, if Tavares is gone for the year, getting Hall probably wouldn't have pushed the Leafs to the top anyway. The only added benefit is that they'd have their 1st round pick at least in the crapshoot draft.

It's why you have to put the HEM line back together. They might be able to get a greasy goal here or there, while hopefully generating some decent nerdies.

Simmons wasn't great, but Thornton was exactly 403 times worse last night.

Meh, the Leafs were awesome this year, that game wasn't representative of how they play. Their heads weren't in it. I mean they took 47 puck over the glass penalties.

Tavares is a huge loss though. We have to pray that Kerfoot can pull a McCauley otherwise they are in tough. Center was always a bigger issue than another winger. They only have 2 non-4th line centers.

They should double shift Matthews/Marner with Wily.

Habs played well but the Leafs lost this one themselves. Unforced turnovers, incomplete passes, avoidable PK time.

Who's "they"?

I don't think anyone that's a HabsFan brought up Simmonds except when Anderson almost ran him over in the first period.

They can beat the Habs without Tavares. Even the Oilers or Jets. But if they're without Tavares in the conference finals they're simply huge underdogs.

This was one of two things that I was preoccupied with last night.

The first thing obviously was the horrific injury to Tavares.

But the other was the realization that whatever happens in the rest of this series (or the next, if we get there), our realistic hopes of contention are already over.

I might be tempted to split Matthews-Marner

Matthews-Willy is still an elite first line, and we already know from a pretty large sample size the Marner can elevate a line on his own, especially if Matthews is getting the tough matchups. Let him and Hyman turn Kerfoot into a serviceable 2nd line C.

Galch-Matthews-Nylander
Hyman-Kerfoot-Marner
Foligno-Engvall-Mik
Joe-Brooks-Spezza

I can't remember a single other game where they put the puck over the glass 3 times.

they were rattled as fuck by the Tavares injury.

time for all this gudpro leadership to take over. I'm expecting a lot better for game 2.

Done...if I was online last night I would have gladly banned the dude.

Good to hear some positive news this morning. I think these guys regroup and spank the Habs saturday. Not even worried. Last night was not a good gauge.
honestly I think banning lapin is a huge overreaction. what did he do that is offside the rules? other than be a habs fan and be annoying, one of which the vast majority of posters here are guilty of at various times.

we're being really sensitive sallys here and honestly I'm kind of embarrassed by it.
