Round 1: Leafs @ Bruins

I love Willy but I don't think he can carry a line, and he's really being asked to carry that third line the way it is.

Kapanen can make that line just as effective. Willy can raise Matty's game though.

It pisses me off to see Willy not getting maximized all year long.

tbh there's a bit of a compliment to willy there - i'm sure babs sees our 3rd line's offensive ability as potentially a series difference maker.

Meh I think he's just protecting willy from bergeron on the road.

Which kind of makes willy potentially the most important player for them this series.

But at the same time, Willy's a fourth liner any time they're up in the third period. And probably if Willy doesn't have a good period too. Babs is dying to slot brownie in there. Dying to.

Naz should be used against Bergeron. But we'll see.

Don’t want that line getting 18-20 minutes. Rather JT’s like get the matchup so we can ice Matthews and JT as much as possible. Marleau/Brown/whoever shouldn’t be getting that amount of ice. Kadri hasn’t been good enough to warrant that usage either this season. If JT fails, then yeh - try it out. But wouldn’t start that way.

Yeah, no need to overthink this.

When teenage rookie Auston Matthews and Tyler Bozak were our other two options at center, it made all the sense in the world to feed Kadri all of the though minutes and matchups.

Now, though? We've got two #1 centers and they should both be playing as much as possible in every situation. Especially since the Tavares line has been playing the shutdown role already most of the season.

Kadri's job now is to out-produce Boston's bottom-2 lines.

When you look at last season's line-up, and consider that the series went 7 games.. gotta like our chances here.

Marleau - Kadri - Marner
Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Van Riems - Bozak - Brown
Johnsson - Pleks - Kapanen

Rielly - Zaitsev
Gardiner - Hainsey
Dermott - Polak

You should be talking to Willy about that, seems like he needs to work on that.

Willy can make some bad decisions when he tries to be fancy with the puck. I can see why Babs doesn't trust him in moments where the game is on the line. He is a bit of a riverboat gambler. Now he does greatly increase our chance of scoring goals so there is a philosophical argument to put him on the ice as much as possible.

Would be nice if he learned how to make the smart play, at times.

Playoffs last year:

Nylander vs Bergeron: 2gf-1ga, 14scf-14sca, 25cf-29ca
Nylander vs Marchand: 2gf-2ga, 14scf-17sca, 27cf-34ca
Nylander vs Pastrnak: 3gf-3ga, 17scf-17sca, 30cf-30ca

We have absolutely nothing to counter the Bruins top line imo. Kadri is just in la la land with his hot wife. Probably tough for him to get out of bed.
