I find it kind of hilarious that the two people with the most steam to get the GM job in Columbus are both frauds.

Need to avoid the Core 4 situation. 3X8 is certainly better than 4X11, but it starts to become a limiting factor. If they want Guhle long term, it will have to be in the 5M range, max.

That said the Dach and Newhook deals are are good, for now. And that’s why Perfertti in an intriguing option. (And needless to say, good drafting is critical to get players who can contribute during their ELC.)

3x8 is great with the cap going up and is not even close to the mess in Toronto.

Who's Desharnais stopping from playing if we signed him? Kovecevic and/or Barron?

Desharnais would be a simple benchmark: If Reinbacher/Mailloux aren't better than him, they don't play and they're sent back to the AHL.

A starting line up of:

Matheson-Savard
Xhekaj-Guhle
Hutson-Desharnais
Kovacevic
Struble

Seems somewhat realistic. Take into consideration Savard's probably getting traded within the next 9 months and there's always injuries at some point. Not to mention, Desharnais won't be signing a crazy deal in terms of money & length. Might be able to get him for two years @ $1.5M AAV.

If Habs are in hunt for wildcard spot Savard is not being dealt - he’ll simply be viewed as a veteran deadline pickup.

Hughes has clearly stated multiple times HuGo expect to make the jump and be in the hunt for a playoff spot and not a top-10 pick next season.
