Season Ending State of the Union / Expansion Draft Thread

That's why this team will never accomplish anything but marginal improvements followed by setbacks. At some point you have to stop with the band-aids and half measures. You need to blow it to smithereens and start from scratch.

And before someone chimes in with the inevitable "the fans won't accept a rebuild" save your keystrokes. There was a time when this fanbase wouldn't accept losing of any kind but aside from the last two Covid-assisted playoff runs, this team has only made the postseason legitimately once since 2015 and the fans have accepted this because at the end of the day, what choice have they got? The fans have shown time and time again that no amount of managerial incompetence or poor on-ice performance is going to stop them from paying top dollar prices to watch the games. So the Habs can do whatever they want without fear. Tank, tear it down, hire an Anglo coach. You name it. Nothing is going to stop the fans from lining up and demanding that Geoff Molson take their money.

If this regime simply retooled in stages we would of been a contender by now

Full gut jobs are 75% luck with the ping pong balls and the right draft with quality talent

For every gut job success there are 5 failures like Buffalo

Given that this roster already has several good young players, I'm not sure what sure what you're talking about.

"several" is a relative term.

They have Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov and maybe Kotkaniemi. Those are pretty much the only untouchables on this roster (and KK is probably more valuable as trade bait) Every other player on this roster is replaceable and every player on the wrong side of 30 years old needs to be gone.

You said “start from scratch” so that it was clearly incorrect, and there’s nothing wrong with 17, 73, 44, 26, etc. Your schtick has gotten old.

Now it's you who's arguing semantics. You can't get rid of EVERYONE all at once, obviously. Getting rid of Price or Weber, barring the LTIR route, is next to impossible due to the size and scope of their contracts. But they need to go, as does every other over 30 player. The goal in a proper rebuild is to offload veteran players and exchange them for prospects and picks. It takes years and in the short and medium term your team is a bottom feeder. But it's long overdue. We'll never win the way they've been doing it.

If we capitalized on Gally , Price , Markov, Pleks , Petry , Sourray, Komi etc.....like we did with Patches in stages we would be contenders

Sprinkle in a few suckage years and top 5 picks along the way .......ah what could of been

Marinaro reporting that Price is staying. Fleury (as I predicted) is the one going to Seattle.

Fleury might pan out as a bottom pairing guy....but he has been surpassed by a bunch Habs D prospects...so no big loss

well played, Bergevin
Quenneville + Francis are very close w MB like Bob Murray close

#NHLboysclub

Besides Price never fit Francis GM DNA, he likes low cost tandems
