Seattle Kraken @ Hurricanes 7:00PM

Another good effort by the Canes today. We pretty much controlled the entire 1st period (and should have had another goal or two) and got things going again in the 2nd half of the 3rd. Once we took the lead, it was a classic close out, and the Krakens were barely able to get their goalie out of the net.

The Kraken had 4 shots in the 3rd period. Their 3rd shot came at 10:02. Marty scored 39 seconds later. Their 4th and final shot came about a minute after Carrier scored. They only had 3 other shot attempts after Carrier’s goal. Daccord could only get to the bench with 86 seconds left.

Almost got goalied by Daccord, he made a ton of difficult saves look pretty easy and was the only Kraken player that stood out.

Boy, it takes an in person viewing to see just how much negative hockey Lambert has infused in that Seattle team. They’re darned near unwatchable, and mostly remind me of the early Nashville teams. They just defend, obstruct, hack, slash, hook, hold, defend some more and then leak a forward out looking for a lead pass when they get possession. No wonder their goaltending has improved. By the time an opponent hacks their way through all that mess, they’re lucky to have the energy to try to attack the net. They’ve never been good per se, but at least they were watchable back when they were doing a version of the old Lavi/Torts puck pressure game.

Carolina basically gave up a goal on a terrible goalie turnover and another thanks to Slavin getting beat one on one in a situation he cleans up 99% of the time when he’s not encased in rust. Other than that, I’m not sure I recall Seattle generating much of anything. Looking at Moneypuck, they show 1.5 xGs for Seattle and that may be a bit generous. So hey, nice to get the W but that was pretty poor value for money. Thankfully only a handful of teams really play that way anymore.
