That's the way it has worked in the past. Prime will just be hosting the streaming access, for a fee. It'll more than likely be similar to the fee structure from last year ... maybe with a modest increase. $20-25 per month.

I cut directtv stream last month....trying to save some money.....I haven't missed it yet.....but I am waiting to see how much of a pain in the ass getting my NFL and Hurricanes games will be. If they go Prime, we are golden. I get free Paramount Plus because the publication I work for is owned by Paramount. I get free HBO Max though ATT so I only have to pay out of pocket for a couple of apps.
 
We ditched Spectrum this year. The internet was just way too slow. I had the most basic ala carte cable TV package so I could have hockey, golf and history channel, etc. But it was still way too expensive. Especially not having the NHL network. I'm still struggling to find ways to watch tv. Going to be buying an antenna so we can watch football OTA. Luckily, Samsung has a massive tv network of channels free if you have a Samsung TV. But I'm going to end up having to buy an NHL package I'm sure. MLB had a sale for about $40 a little while back to finish he last half of the season. I wish I had grabbed that. I currently have access to zero MLB games without a paid subscription. I absolutely despise today's subscription tv services. It's silly to have Netflix, Prime, Disney/ESPN, etc and still not have access to anything worthwhile. And luckily we don't pay for much of that with Verizon kicking it in for free. But the free ESPN is very limited. But I still hate having to search to see who is carrying theThursday night game, who has Sunday night Monday night, etc.

Thursday - Amazon Prime or local Fox/NBC for Panthers on Thurs

Yeah, it's not going to be much different for the NHL. The broadcast games are already split between ABC/ESPN and TNT/True and they add games to the ESPN+ exclusive track during the season. So, that's two things to track down in addition to the team's local broadcast. So, you're probably chasing at least three providers if you're watching the full slate, no matter which pathway anyone choses. Pretty much every sport is like this now. It's expensive and frustrating, and we're probably still in a transitional phase because I'm not sure the money works in the long run with this set of options.

One positive development is that a couple of the exclusive streaming options now have secondary access on streamers that a lot of people already have. You can get the ESPN/ABC games on Disney+/Hulu and you can get the TNT games on HBO Max. That's kind of nice for people trying to a la carte the thing. And if the regional games end up on Prime at least it's a familar, stable platform. I prefer that to the DAZN/Scripps/ViewLift thingamabob. DAZN has a pretty rough history in Europe of not scaling up to meet traffic demands. With Prime, you avoid that concern.

Hey ... on the upside, my son left an old TV schedule poster from 1999-2000 in his closet and I took a look the other day. There were around 6 games that weren't televised locally at all and three carriers shared the ones that were. So multiple broadcasters is nothing new and at least you can figure out how to watch all the games if you put in a little effort (and keep a credit card handy).

I've had ChatGPT monitoring news about the Canes' TV plans for me since the end of the season. Here's a quick summary of where things stand:

The most seamless plan seems to be to use Amazon Prime as the streaming service and just have subscribers pay the predicted $20 a month fee for the season and move forward which I think would make most Canes fans happy. I’ve never had issues with using the Prime video platform for glitches or outages, which is a welcome relief after the Bally’s charade. Nice to see the gang all back together for HHN.
 
Yeah ... for whatever reason the Hurricanes always lag behind everybody else in announcing their TV stuff. The personnel have all been set for a while now, but we got the big reveal yesterday for no apparent reason. The only new news was the network name and exactly zero people will tune in because of that.
